Ready Player One 6/10 pretty pointless but does its thing well enough

Mike: I can imagine a few possible fixes that'll happen in the next movie - if you think there's one that's the most likely, please spell it out for me!

I suspect they'll somehow reverse the polarity of the snap, making the dead alive and vice versa - but people don't like that since it kills too many people and in a sense Thanos still gets his way

if it's something closer to a total undo, that would be pretty annoying

And the next Spider-Man movie.

I guess the ending was kind of cool for a second because you don't expect it, and then you realize what's really going on, and it's just kinda dumb.

Yeah it didn’t hit me emotionally at all because it’s so obviously not permanent. Like you would show studio execs the end of that movie and tell them it was legit and all they would see is the biggest stacks of money ever made by movies melting into the ether like so many masked heroes.

My initial reaction was, oh, reboot. Some of these actors are getting a bit old. But then I realized Spider-Man isn't due for a reboot yet.

I must again humbly request that you spell things out. If there's something specific, I want to hear it!

And I only half-watched that predator trailer, but it looks pretty AVP2ish.

I don't really have anything more specific than what I posted... Dr. Strange obviously has some kind of plan, and it started with basically just handing the time stone to Thanos and letting things play out. I really have no idea what that plan could be, and I'm content with just waiting for the next movie. Whatever they've got cooking will probably be underwhelming and serviceable at best if we're lucky, maybe downright stupid. And I don't want to make it worse by headcanoning an explanation for myself that I'll end up liking better than what they actually do.

Dr. Strange probably just pulled some magic that resets to when he handed the gem to Thanus except now they have Captain Marvel !!! :wank:

OK, sure. It's not like the plot has ever been the strong part of these movies. I'm ok with knowing what'll happen, but not quite how. And as long as Rian Johnson isn't writing IW2, I presume it'll be fun seeing things play out.

Not sure if I said it before, but it's such a relief that this movie felt distinct from the other character overload movies (Avengers, Ultron, Civil War, Justice League).

How so? It pretty much felt like a decent enough Avengers movie to me, but really no different from the others.

more time spent off-earth, better small scale personal stakes, arguably better villain motivation/characterization, Black Order introduced mini-boss vibe and even the swarming CGI minions they did have felt a bit more weighty and menacing than the ultron drones, the jet-skitauri, or the parademons. also no interdimensional portals or sky beams to be deactivated.

I totally agree that the tone and feel were pretty similar to the whedon team-ups. but if they're going through the motions, at least they're slightly different motions?

Sure. I don't hate it or anything, it's totally decent for what it is. Thanos is definitely a good villain and I've always liked space Marvel. I think I'm just... tired of these movies. I remember perfectly well when it was unthinkable that anyone would try to make movies like this, and then the early stages after the first X-Men movie when they only came out once in a blue moon and you'd always get super excited. So as a terminal geek, I feel like I'm being ungrateful, but it's just... eh. I'm not even that excited about the new Deadpool movie, and that has fucking Cable in it, of all things.

Heat - 8.5/10 (possible 9)

Pacino's coked out performance was a little grating but fit. The big shoot out's great but sometimes the geography of the scene gets a little murky and the honor killings at the end feel a bit forced. Other than that it's damn solid.

Watched an excellent '60s movie called "Requiem For A Heavyweight" with Anthony Quinn, Jackie Gleason, Mickey Rooney and a bunch of real boxers in the supporting cast including Muhammad Ali, Rory Calhoun and Jack Dempsey. Written by Rod Serling. About the fall of heavyweight champ Mountain Rivera. If you're into boxing movies, this is pretty much as good as it gets. 10/10

Can't believe how many people sat through Deadpool 2. Were they giving away cash at the theater or something.

Solo - 8/10

Way, way, way better than I expected it to be. This might drop to a 7 after some reflection, but for today, in the afterglow, it’s an 8.
