Isle of Dogs - 7.5/10

I know what Wes Anderson is doing; I can see him doing it. But I still enjoy it.

Joaquin is good in this. There's a good movie in there somewhere but it's too slow.

The Internship - 0.5/10
Just a despicable two hour long commercial for what a magnificent, benevolent entity google is. Unforgivable corporate tripe of unimaginable proportions that should serve only as a cautionary tale against commercial art.

Game Night - 6/10
A couple pretty good laffs, but I watched it directly after The Internship and spent the whole viewing suspicious of what my corporate overlords were trying to sell me in this one.

The Internship was miserable. You can tell neither stars wanted to be in it, or even, had any desire to live. I had a little hope for it since Wedding Crashers was good.

nostalghia 6/10 the candle scene was way overhyped - lots of beautiful shots but I couldn't make sense of the story. probably my fault...

andrei rublev 3/7 I left this because I was not having a good time in my shitty front/edge seat in the packed theater; I'm sure I'll finish it eventually but I really didn't love what I saw. "seventh seal" vibes.

I think I've seen all his "real" movies now (except the last third of rublev), so I may as well rank:
stalker
solaris
sacrifice
mirror
ivan's childhood
nostalghia
andrei rublev

and now I will come up with my own rules for the tarkovsky drinking game:
guy paired up with (and uninterested in) a chick who is way out of his league
female hysteria
someone lying down just because
gratuitous exposed breasts / apparent nipples
shift between color & bw/sepia
chick in flimsy/gossamer outfit
watching "going from point A to point B" at length
it's raining indoors
camera is pointed down at some moving water with stuff in it
guy with weird colored patch of hair
levitation

American Gothic - 7
This lacks the gore and the boobs of a typical 80s slasher flick but it makes up for a good creepy family of killers. The only problem is the "teens", they were boring faceless fodder. I remember seeing the box art for this at my local rental place alllll the time. I always wanted to rent it.

Sweet Sixteen - 2
This was shot poorly, boring movie, not a lot of gore either. Every character is racist I think. Theres a ton of full frontal nudity though buuut its from the 15 year old main character. 80s movies got away with a lot of shit. Was American Pie the last "high school" movie with a ton of nudity in it? SJWs would have a field day if any of these new horror movies came out and had their teen main protagonist take a 5 minute shower scene. Anyways, this movie sucks.

Treasure of the Amazon - 7
This was fun! It has it all, gore, boobs, Donald Pleasence as a Nazi.

Welcome to Happiness - 5
I liked the premise and it started off really good. It just got kind of boring after so long. Like, it was almost good but failed in the end. Basically, its about a dude that lives in an apartment that has a magic printer. The printer will print out 3 questions, then someone will knock on his door. He will ask them the questions, and then guide them into a magic door in his closet where they will go back in time and fix a problem they made in their past life. Sounds great on paper, just got boring.

Detroit 9000 - 6.5
I thought this was going to be a crazy post-apocalyptic blaxplotation film, but it turned out to be a crime drama with some funky jams and lots of hilarious racist slurs thrown in. It wasn't bad but not what I wanted I guess. A lot of the subject matter is relevant today actually.

A Private Matter - 6
This was an HBO movie from the late 80s or early 90s with Sissy Spacek. Its true story set in the 60s, Sissy gets pregnant and the kid turns out to be retarded, so she tries to get an abortion, but its illegal. So the media finds out and it turns into a media circus. Not bad.

River of Death - 5
I watched this a couple of days ago and I already don't remember shit about it. I only remember this scene.

Zapped! - 5
The Scott Baio movie where he gets magic powers. Its really tame 80s sex com.

Night School - 4
Slasher / Murder mystery. A couple good gore scenes but generic movie.

I saw American Gothic when I was a little shaver.

—————SPOILERS (if anyone gives a shit)———————

The mummified baby and fanatical patriarch renouncing god and pledging allegiance to Satan before getting his brains blown out kind of fucked me up.

I’m surprised Mortician never used the “big dollies” part as a sample

I was reading about it while watching the original. It sounds bad. The only returning character was the teacher and her part wasn't even that big in the original.
