Not that this was anything close to a favourite movie, but that’s not a descriptor I would ever really use as a negative
Well, as a fan of Stanley Kubrick, I can see what you mean. I just thought it started out somewhat interesting, then quickly devolved into an unimaginative amalgamation of a bunch of tired sci-fi and horror tropes and ultimately went absolutely nowhere. If the themes and ideas are interesting, a slow pace can work just fine. You know, Blade Runner. But a boring, slow movie about completely uninteresting ideas that it seems to be so in love with that it has to examine them all in slow motion while Natalie Portman looks on googly-eyed and does her breathless-talking-thing just becomes so pretentious that you wish it'd just choke on its own dick already.

And finding out they inserted a Beckett reference just kind of makes me feel I was right all along. I have a literature degree, so you're not allowed to disagree with me.

bandersnatch 4.5/10 i already wasted plenty of time on this nonsense but will probably waste some more trying to get another ending

a plot that tries to commit to determinism AND the multiverse AND time travel... fukk ovv! and if I read one more internet comment along the lines of "but maybe ur decisions don't matter b/c free will is illusory"... :ax:

Bvndersnvtche sounds like the kind of thing that'd have me entranced for a good while, Black Mirror makes me wanna kill myself though. Like it's not bad, usually, it just puts me in this "bad drugs, day four of three" black mood. Not sure what to do, PROBABLY shouldn't watch it...

as a tech demo the "movie" nails it... there are some dumb production interference type choices that i won't divulge because spoilers... but it's worth a look if you're at all curious. this it certainly doesn't pack much emotional punch, if that's what you're turned off by. not sure if BM bums you out because it's sometimes successfully emotionally engaging or just because it can kinda suck and be too smugly up its own ass...

For whatever reason I thought it would be fun to play Bad News Bears for the kids.
I guess in 1976 you could say "friend" a bunch of times in a PG rated movie.

mortal engines 6/10 but that's in no way a recommendation for anyone who isn't drawn to steampunk stuff  4 points for elrond smith's gorgeous daughter (whose dad is vincent d'onofrio and she's dating sean fucking penn?!?!?). this is the same situation as warcraft/valerian all over again - studio suits not understanding that niche genre appeal and no stars being cast = won't make enough money to cover the massive budget required for all that damn fine cgi

I wanted to see it, but not urgently. you may have pushed me into "catch it in a 3D theater" territory... assuming it's not already too late
It's already been moved to the broom closet screens here, so good luck with that... it's definitely worth seeing in a big 3D theater if you still can, though.
only 3D option was like 30 miles (7000 km) away at a theater I'd never been to before. I rolled the dice and it turns out the presentation was killer, so no regrets

A lot of it was miniatures, actually. I guess Jackson decided to let Weta do things the way they actually like doing them.

I legit thought Mortal Engines was some dumb young adult book adaptation, like Maze Runner or Nigga We Teens is Starvin Gimmie da Arrows, now I feel bad for avoiding it

I think... it is? or at least plenty of articles describe thee book(s) that way. maybe not necessarily "dumb", but it's both YA and steampunk - what could go wrong?
