i liked the 1989 film because it's these goofy situation comedy type characters (the handsome family of smilingly oblivious dorks and their lovable folksy neighbor) being dropped into a murdery universe of eldritch mythology, spinal meningitis deformities, and dead babies, all of which end up either killing them or driving them irrevocably insane.
in the remake, right out of the gate, everyone (even the fucking kids) seems to be a brooding sad guy that can't wait to fuck off this mortal coil, so there's no real drama or shock when they start getting knifed to a fuck by angry zombies.

Iron Sky 2 - 4/10

I really liked the first one, but this is just a trainwreck.

that's a bummer. I think each one had a stellar trailer, and I was a bit let down by the first one. I think I'd enjoy it on second watch, with knowledge of what it's trying for.

the unicorn 3.5/10 I really like lauren lapkus as a comedian, but she didn't get to do much in this and the story/characters sucked nearly as much as the male lead.

afaik the problem with the first one was that it was basically written by taking on all kinds of ideas that had been suggested by crowdfunders, so that's why it seems a bit incoherent at times, but ultimately I thought it was a) funny and b) still very well-functioning political satire. This one certainly seems to have been put together the same way in that it consists almost exclusively of ideas that maybe sounded good on paper, but don't fit together and go nowhere. I still think it's a 4/10 because I did laugh a few times and some of the acting is surprisingly decent, but.... nope.

pretty weak steak, mpd

little 3/10 this looked pretty fun based on the trailer but it was just garbage

they shall not grow old [3D] 7/10 apparently I knew almost nothing about WWI!

blackkkkklansman 5/10 although it's somewhat entertaining, this is an overly simple movie seemingly made for stupid people.

The 'funny black american guy' in iron sky totally broke the movie... I didn't think the actor was terrible or anything, it was more like I didn't like interacting with the brain who wrote his scenes. It was the same feeling as seeing Japanese depictions of America, or reading incels talking about parties, dating, and other things that involve sexual chemistry.

Sounds like the Three Billboards effect.

i'm going monday - looking forward to freedom from the half-assed franchise dedication that has had me watching every one of these goofy movies

no. it's just exhausting. it takes 3 hours to get to most of those BIG DRAMATIC BEATS. by then it's hard to do anything other than shrug.

the final battle sequence was fun and there was a fair amount of decent character moments...I feel like I should drop it to a 6.

The Prodigy - 5

Avengers: Endgame - 6.5 - it was fun, forget most of it already. I liked how it was a Doctor Who episode for a bit.

High Life - 7.5 - Nice, bleak space movie.

I've been avoiding Godzilla trailers but they played one before the movie and I'm kind of dreading it but will be there opening day.
