Ad Astra - Pitt's character was cool, but it's just more fucking Interstellarism. McConaughey can comfortably scoff at this blatant nutswinging.
Gravity, the Martian, Arrival, Another Life, etc. All the family feels and parental issues, addressed via astronaut movie. Alright already.

Yeah I like Arrival, it had some really powerful moments that made it worthwhile. The first entry scene was legit terrifying. The music for the big ship reveal. Still part of the first wave of Interstellarism tho.

Belladonna of Sadness - 7 vagblood eruptions. I'm on that vintage animation kick lately.

I hope Disney does an Epic Illustrated show or something similar now. In the wake of LDR, Amazon reacted with Undone, which was not impressive cartoon filtering by any stretch. It's just bland and incomplete looking, especially when contrasted against the amazing job on the Fish Night episode, which had the best cartoonifying I've seen anywhere yet. They've also got Robot Carnival on Prime, which I hadn't seen since probably Blockbuster Video tymes...

DX7 ftw

Robot Carnival (1987). The movie that cemented anime's dominance over all other kinds of cartoons for me back in the day. Akira and Ghost didn't quite do it, this one did.

This has it all...nasty skronky synth noise, field recordings, distorted drumbeats, and fucking steampunk before there even was such a thing. First appearance right here:

Birds of Prey - I mean, feminist slapstick comedy? Ok, I guess.

Honestly, though, I've kind of come to rate DC movies on the DC movie scale, and this DC movie is reasonably entertaining, tonally consistent, it has at least the semblance of a coherent plot, and some good action setpieces. Obviously no self-respecting DC nerd is going to be ok with this version of Black Canary, but the semi-goofy Huntress who takes herself too seriously is pretty funny, and of course Margot Robbie is never not good. So fuck it, I'm going to allow this one.
