This is what I said on FB about it recently: I'll preface this by saying I'm NOT defending McGregor and in a logical universe he gets shut out for the first few rounds before Floyd catches him slipping some time before the 6th (generously, more likely the 3rd or 4th) and stops him in a series of punches similar to the Gatti stoppage, but even more decisive.
."
Yep, the only thing that is of note in this fight was announced yesterday - that was the purse split.

Floyd 400 million, Connor 127 million.

The highest purse for a pro boxing debut that has or will ever be.

Shut the book.

Connor could cop on on the temple in the first round with his chin up in the air trying his dance steps out, or like Rileys prediction above.

But 127 million not to give a fucks make Connor a winner by a country mile.

My issue with the fight is as a lover of the sport - I HATE Floyd is going to break Marciano's 49-0 record against a guy in his first pro fight. It irks me.

But the money is the money.

What do you think the Conor/UFC split is ? 50/50 ?

I'm surprised Floyd's payout is known; I figured it would just be EVERYTHING minus Conor/Dana's $125 million.

Conor will probably make a bare minimum 50 million in endorsements for the fight too, since he's not tied exclusively to Reebok, which really further exposes just how absurd that deal is. That amount will probably be exclusively his and not part WME's (although his manager and team will get absurd paycheques out of that).

Marciano's record is padded with more cupcakes than a bakery, and fuckin Chavez went 87-0 before he even had a draw, so that record was always pretty "yeah, but.." to me. I don't like Floyd, but I don't care if he "breaks" that one.

Thats the guaranteed purse.

The big extra $$ is the PPV points. I notice 'McGregor Promotions' or something like it on the poster as well, which to me is how he gets some PPV points without UFC - 50/50...hmmm it'd be huge but probably more 55/45 or something.

Floyd's PPV points would be cray.

I concede Marcianos record isn't a murderers row, but he fought who was available to him and Charles, Moore, Walcott were the best there was at the time.

Chavez certainly had a lot of Tijuana cab drivers in the 87 too - but the issue with this is Chavez has a bunch of Ls on that record and it's the way Floyd fans drag 50-0 around and will bandy it about is the irksome bit.

Yes, Clazaghe retired 49-0, Finito Lopez is 51-0-1 with I think a KO but at least a victory over the guy he drew with - but it's a false history & it irks, irks I say!!!

I'm kind of liking this new "go fuck yourself" version of Jon Jones. That presser was probably the first time I didn't get douche chills everytime he opened his mouth. DC, conversely, still turns into an absolute fucking moron as soon as JBJ's in the room with him. It's really kind of sad.

Anyway, I'm really just rooting for Volkan Oezdemir.

Pretty funny when Jon told Luke Thomas he didn't like him so he wasn't going to answer his question

Can't wait for Jones vs DC 2. Lawler vs Cowboy and Maia finally getting a crack at the belt has me thinking I'll actually throw down some money for the card.

Thought it was funny Jones called out Dana for only supporting fighters who make money but ignores everyone else. Dana was never my friend.

Jones is right, but that's as it should be. Dana's the boss, he shouldn't be Jones' dad.

Yeah, well, Daddy bought him a Bentley, remember, so I'm sure JBJ thought he was his special friend for a while.

The more I think about this card, the more I realize I haven't been this pumped for a UFC event in a long time. If Maia submits Woodley I'm seriously going to cry tears of joy.

Definitely. I still chuckle at, "Jon Jones will never headline a ppv card again."

Just remember, the UFC let a guy walk away who beat both Woodley and Maia. :ax: Still kind of bummed they let Mousasi walk, too.

Mousasi leaving for Bellator really stings. But tbqh I think this whole thing where Bellator is now suddenly getting somewhat high-profile fighters from the UFC won't last. We know what the UFC does with other promotions when they become an actual threat, and now there's more money behind them than ever before. And somehow I don't think Bellator's all that much of a priority for Viacom. But we'll see.

That was a rough interview to watch - almost harder than watching Woodley wait & stuff Maia for 5 rounds without putting a combo together

Yeah, it's always funny when random internet nerds start calling cage fighters "bitches" or "pussies" because they show some emotions after a tough loss or don't stand and bang.

I bet Bisping and GSP are happy the Maia vs Woodley fight was a snoozer. Dana shitting on Woodley when he's fought 4 times in a year.

Yeah, remember how the "ship had sailed" on Bisping vs GSP and Woodley was definitely getting GSP next if he won?

Or when Rogan said he wasn't ever going to interview fighters again after they'd been knocked out? Sigh.

Anyway, guys, Oezdemir. You guys.

(Yeah, I know, this is probably the end of the line for him. I could see him beating Texeira, but JBJ/DC/Gus? Nope. But let me have my stupid sports nationalism for once.)

EDIT - wtf happened to the spoiler tag?

yeah, I felt a bit of a knot in my stomach when DC said something along the lines of "when you lose two times, it's not really a rivalry anymore". Shit, he was looking so good and I could see him kicking Jones' ass (something I would have been really happy about. fuck Jones), and then bam. Jones is so fucking good, watching that scene in slomo it looks like it's a low kick until it suddenly is not anymore...

near impossible for Jones to get beat at 205. man, i really wanted DC to win and that kick came out of nowhere. he really hit Jones with some brutal punches too that never fazed him at all.

That was incredibly slick and such quick thinking. They better book Jones vs Gustafsson 2 real soon.
