it's actually really fun; the save system is annoying, but it's truly a fun game. I play on PC, so I can't speak for other formats. This is the best game I played since Skyrim, and if they patch it well and keep it updated, could be better

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
There's a mod/cheat on the Nexus that allows for unlimited quick saves, if you're interested:
https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/1
But, yeah, I'm waiting for them to finish patching it up before I try it. Plus, that mod might eventually break due to future patch compatibility at some point. I'll wait.
Finally got past Ranch Hand Simulator 2000, and what do you know? There's a great game underneath all that. Hello, Red Dead Redemption, I guess this is your redemption. I vaguely remember some of you bitching about Mexico, but I'm not up to that yet. Hello, Miss McFarlane, would a game released in 2018 have all the rape threats and whores telling me I need to get my dick wet? For all the cusin' in GTAV, and Trevor's nutty ways, this is the nastier game. I had no idea, it had all the animal killing and skinning. I had assumed Far Cry 3 was the originator of that. You can see so many ideas that the Witcher 3 just expanded upon. Good stuff, this.
I've also been messing about with the original Blood. Been using this source port:
http://m210.duke4.net/
Finally. FINALLY! I can play this game and it runs smooth. Also can run it at 4K. Great stuff, although that port isn't finished yet. So, begrudgingly I might wait a bit to finally beat this game. The fact that I've never finished this game boggles my own mind.

Spent two full days trying to compile and configure a Retroarch build, and I can't honestly say it was worth the time. I'm still left with the abhorrent mess of configuring MAME, which I had somehow hoped this would help me avoid.
For all the amazing features they've packed into the whole libretro project, some seriously fucking basic shit is totally broken or missing.
I think I might wind up dumping the cash into a Launchbox lifetime pass thing.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
I’m actually enrolled in it right now as I WAS in the mood to play some PS3 titles that aren’t on PC like the original Darkness. It’s a lazy way to skip having to hunt down used titles. Also, certain titles might be real expensive now as it’s a collector’s item or what have you. I’ll probably cancel it, but it works well enough. Still, it is a streaming service so it is not as smooth or looks as sharp as owning a physical or digital copy. There are some PS4 titles included now a days.ghost boner wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 11:02 am anybody have that game streaming service for ps4? i forget what its called. i had a 3 day trial and my internet sucked to bad to use it. im moving next week and will have good internet and was wondering if its worth the 20 (i think) per month

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
According to a walk-through I only have 3 missions between Red Dead's ending and myself. I just have trouble bringing myself to just do it.
I've been spending sometime getting older FPS'ers to run on my PC with fancy modern times resolutions. Sin, Clive Barker's Undying, Dredd vs Death, Star Wars: Dark Forces II, Kingpin: Life of Crime, FEAR... maybe more, but I'm forgetting. These are all Mouse/Keyboard games, though. So, how many do I actually try before I get feed up again?
Star Wars: Battleground 2 is on sale, so I got it just for the single player. My God, is this game gorgeous! My God, is this game boring!
Far Cry 5 is this week, so, well, you know.

I'm playing Gundam Versus. Other than the fact that it's not turn based, it's about as Japanese as you'd expect - the only point is grinding and unlocking stuff. But I like Gundamses and I'm tired and I don't feel like playing anything that demands an investment of more than five minutes at a time.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
Wow. There seems to be two camps of reviewers for Far Cry 5. The ones that know it's a video game and comment on the game play streamlining and changes. Then there is the side that cry foul the game isn't some form of anti-Trump, pro-Liberal essay of on how guns and working class middle Americans are the source of all the world's troubles. How dare it be about a fictional cult, and not about Protestants! Jesus fucking Christ! When I want political satire and social commentary that's real food for deep thought you know I turn to first person shooters from Ubisoft. In what world do we live in that websites are okay with a fucking video game reviewer taking up space with their political view they learned from Facebook instead of reviewing a game as a game. Is this the new norm in media? Should I expect anti-Clinton rhetoric when I wan't to read about how the Yankees did last night, as well. Fuck off!
Anyhows....
I started it up late last night (PC) just to se if it would run. Outside of a color corruption issue with 4K, HDR, and forcing it to run at 60fps (I'm thinking this is all an HDMI issue) this thing is beautiful and runs beautiful. I may buy a new HDMI cable. But I need to know it can do the whole HDR/4K/60fps at the same time deal.

I ain't going to get into a fight with you over Far Cry, Charlie. I'll agree that each and every one of them did have a glaring fault, though. Thinking about it, I only ever did finish Far Cry 1, Far Cry Predator, and Far Cry 3. I don't think I give a shit enough to ever finish 4. 2 I need a mod or something to ease up on the re-spawning enemies. Primal I'll get to one day. As for Blood Dragon, too damn drab, and boring I think.
Screw all that noise though. So far Far Cry 5 might be the best one. The shooting is so finely tuned, but the graphics Not since RE7 have I been floored by "photo realism". Also, gone are a lot of the typical Ubisoft jazz like killing animals to upgrade stuff, and climbing towers to open the map. Seriously, though, the graphics:

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
Yeah, well, Far Cry 5 needs some motherfucking juxtaposition. It's non-stop ambushes, drivebys, and roadblocks just to get to a real mission point where it's possible you'll still get jumped right after you finish it. Sometimes you're kidnapped in the middle of one mission to be forced into another. This isn't counting random animal tomfoolery, or the psycho "Friendly" NPCs that will drive over you or start shit with another faction around you causing that mess to also spill into your area. Seriously considering taking a break from it, and coming back later. Although, when you actually sit down to play it, it is maddeningly addictive.
Found a mod that "fixes the problems" that I had with Far Cry 2. Just fiddled about for a short time, but this might now be the best Far Cry, not 5.
I see Kingdom Come Deliverance is getting massive patches somewhat regularly. Good, I do want to play it.
Did I already mention I finally beat Red Dead Redemption? If it didn't cover itself with the whole cowboy thing, would it really be as well liked as it was? I don't know. Too long, and too much repetitive... everything. Missions, cutscenes, I felt everything was just being reiterated at me over and over.

I'm using attractmode. Easy to install and set up and has some really great looking skins. You can also get it to run Hyperspin skins, if you're into that flashy shit.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 7:35 pm Spent two full days trying to compile and configure a Retroarch build, and I can't honestly say it was worth the time. Here's the official webite:

it has has a fairly active forum where people will try their best to help you.
As for the rest, I'm anything but a mame expert, but if you have any specific questions I can try to help you.

After having a heart attack my TV was fucked because HDR was not detected as an option for God of War - I realised it was because my PS4 VR was routed through - crisis averted, Kratos looks dope

God of War sure looks pretty so far and I'm enjoying the little call-backs to the old games, but the Naughty Dog-itis is getting on my nerves, and I feel like I'm two hours in and the game hasn't really started. It keeps sort of threatening me to turn into an open world game, but then it doesn't? I dunno. I hope it stays linear.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames)
Far Cry 5 was a let down. I was not into the setting at all. It was kinda boring, the story was super lame and the ending was like WHAT THAT IS HOW IT ENDS? STUPID!!!!!!!!!
That said, I really like the series. 2 being my favorite. That one had such a weird, lonely atmosphere.
