No problem at all! I disagree that Demon's Souls had way better music and slightly prefer Dark Souls' music. I think both games have great music and completely agree how important they are and how much they add to the experience. If I had to pick one track, I'd pick Maiden Astraea's song, Gwyn's or The Ancient Dragon's song. They're up there with The Witcher 2, Hotline Miami and Max Payne 3 as my favorite game soundtracks.

spacehamster wrote:#1 for me is the combat, and that's practically unchanged from Demon's Souls. So I'd have to credit it with that over Dark Souls.
arguably the biggest change in combat is the addition of poise, which automatically gives dark souls the edge. in demon's souls you could be stacked like a motherfucker and still get knocked over or staggered by a gust of wind. also, the jumping mechanic, including the jump attack, is a solid addition that i can't go back and play demon's souls without missing. demon's souls also has an annoyingly low equip burden. i don't care if it's more realistic, dark souls had a quarter of the tedious item management that demon's souls had. also, RE: more upgrade options in dark souls. say what? demon's souls had more upgrade options, it's just that a good chunk of them were a giant fucking pain in the ass to farm for.

edit:
Everything in Demon's Souls was fine-tuned to a specific purpose
yeah, magic was fine-tuned to the specific purpose of making the game easy as fuck. sorcery in dark souls is way more balanced and non-game breaking. oh, estus flasks are a huge improvement over carrying 99 healing items all the time too.

i can't pick one over the other though. demon's souls has more consistent level design IMO and a darker atmosphere which i prefer over some of dark soul's fantasy-tinged parts, and i love the nexus. there are also no bosses i hate as much as bed of chaos or ceaseless discharge, and the final boss is waaaaay more challenging and fun in demon's souls.

they're definitely my favorite games of the generation but i've been thinking about what would fill out the rest of a top 10. i'm curious for everyone else too, maybe there's something great i missed along the way

That is an amazing game.

That came out several years ago.

Please don't make this hard.
it's either Super Mario Galaxy or Fallout Chipotle Edition the end

its not hard it's easy

the rules are: don't be wrong and you win

i've been surprised by it too, looks really cool and it has an interesting leveling/XP system. i'll definitely get it at some point, hopefully the online community is still active by then

DONT EVER PLAY THE FIRST ONE

but 2 and 3 are rad. if someone said the gameplay was generic, i wouldn't disagree, but the lore and settings are really cool. makes it worth it IMO.

watch some vids of the new one. it looks stunning

Wait, would The Orange Box count as this gen even though HL2 was XBOX & PC before the 360 came out?

found a better link

uncompressed gameplay from the new game.

https://mega.co.nz/#!tZZQ2bjQ!BB0R9UEyx ... YJCqyu5pHQ

its quite a large file, but if you have decent internet it takes less than 10mins to download.

really gorgeous looking stuff

All of this +1. KZ2 especially was really intense atmosphere wise. I always said it felt like crawling naked through a Bolt Thrower riff. Really fun game.

yes. at least episode 2 and portal, the latter of which is easily in my top 3 or 5.

I assume youre talking about Saturn? I know the Universal v3 chip i got was literally unplugging the ribbon cable, putting the new one in, and soldering 1 wire to the voltage regulator to power it. It took twice as long to take it apart as it did to install the chip. Of course it depends on your model and if the ribbon cable is 20 or 21 pins.

It's also unfortunate that the game runs at far from the promised locked 30fps - rather a chugging 20fps during the zombie action while out in the big city.
From Digital Foundry's Dead Rising 3 analysis. What a fucking joke. It runs the same as GTA V
