Maybe it's that I don't read DC, but merging with the Watchmen universe doesn't bother nor offend me. I actually liked that Rebirth issue, and I plan on reading the first issues of the other titles. I'm betting this speaks more about my current disdain towards current Marvel than anything else. Also, it's not like Squirrel Girl was a Watchmen. Now that would be a reason to hate Rebirth.

I've seem some shit and I've scratched my head at things. But I've never wanted to rather scratch my head with shit then read a comic. Until now...

...and not just a comic, a whole comic company*

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/06/30/ ... -we-stand/

So, any DC comics to recommend. I read Batman and Green Arrow now. I don't care if I know zero about what a Flashpoint, or an Infinite Crisis is, I need something good over here.

*I'll still read The Punisher.

Batman: Superheavy - 7/10

This kind of saved itself in the end, but it's still pretty silly, the villain whose name I've already forgotten was never really all that compelling, and it was pretty much clear how it would end from the start. Really sad to see the Snyder/Capullo run end on what was by far their weakest storyarc. But TBQH what bothers me the most is that this probably means no more Capullo sequentials for another fuck-knows-how many years. Sigh.

DKR: The Last Crusade - 8/10

A little disjointed at times, but Azzarello does a really good job here of imitating the style and tone of DKR without straight-up lifting lines and scenes from it. I'm still not on board with this whole thing where DC's turning DKR into a goddamn franchise, but this is clearly the best thing that's come of it so far - at least as near as I can tell before DKR3 wraps up.

Shit, man, as of now DC can do no wrong compared to the bullshit Marvel has planned. You don't just change existing characters and teams because you want more black girls to go to your movies. You create new characters and let them grow organically. You just don't have a shitty summer event and tell me that as of now Ironman is Doctor Doom & a black broad with a big afro. It would be like if WWF never let The Rock develop and just said one day "Oh, D-Lo Brown is now going to be Stone Cold Steve Austin... just because change." Fuck out of here. I think once Disney bought Star Wars they forgot about Marvel's non-movie stuff and are letting the retards run the asylum.

Oh yeah, I'm basically in another Marvel blackout phase with a few exceptions, and it's not even on purpose. They're just... not making comics I want to read.

Blackout with a few exceptions is RIGHT! I'll always love the Punisher, and Old Man Logan is fun, but almost everything else is either insulting to long time fans or just plain old fashioned dumb. Peter Parker is now the world's leading industrialist/software mogul. Peter Parker, whose previous handling of his social, economic, and love life was maybe two steps up from how Mr. Bean would do. That's okay, though, because I think there are at least 3 Spider-Men running swinging around. Plus like 4 Spider-Women, one of which is supposed to be dead. The dead one, she's also a female Deadpool as well some how. Why? I don't know. I'll never know. It's so fucking convoluted and stupid that it worries me that I'm getting this upset over comic books.

Forget the big franchise titles, man. Those have all been fucked for 20 years. The only Marvel book I can recommend without caveats at the moment is Black Widow - Mark Waid and Chris Samnee took that over after they quit Daredevil (which was an absolutely phenomenal run, and you NEED to read it), and it's pretty great. Samnee might be my favorite sequential artist in all of comics at the moment.

Well, if it wasn't for Capullo. He's got a new book coming out on Image, but Mark Millar's writing it, so chances are it's going to suck.

Lazarus #5-12 - 8.5/10

Dis gud yes. On the surface it's just another sweeping, cynical dystopian sci-fi book, but as much of a fan I am of East of West (and I actually prefer East of West to this), I think Hickman could learn a thing or two from Greg Rucka about how to tell this kind of story and make sure it's reasonably character driven.

Blame #1-66 - 8/10

Don't have a clue who any of the characters are, what any of their motivations are, reasons for any of their actions, what the overarching conflict is, and half the damn time I don't really even understand how the action is supposed to be playing out in the art ?!

Still pretty great, if only for the world and its inhabitants (whoever they are).

Locke & Key - 8.5/10

I really liked/loved this. Good three dimensional character arcs, loved the basic idea of the story with the different keys, loved how the story was told including setting up seemingly unrelated events for big backstory later, the setting, the ending, how the story captured the confusion and frustration of high school and didn't ever lose it in the potential supernatural quagmire. Minor nitpicks but this was really great and my score would only go up from an 8.5 the more I think about it.
