Emma Frost #1-18 - 5/10

Girly book about teenagers and shit. Pretty pointless.

Was that the series that said she got breast implants?

Not in the 18 issues I read. Or maybe she did and I zoned out but I don't think so.

It doesn't really matter either way honestly.

Frank Miller's Robocop #1-9 - 7/10

Pretty good. I liked the story a lot but I generally dislike this kind of Robert Crumb-influenced busy gonzo art style.

I remember reading about it a long time ago and was confused being that every other Marvel female outside of Jubilee has huge knockers regardless.

All-New All Different Avengers #1-6

I dunno, 5/10 maybe because at least it looks ok when Asrar's drawing it. I was really excited for an Avengers book by Mark Waid and Adam Kubert, but this thing is flatter than that beer you couldn't finish the morning after. Waid's usually good at this sort of thing and you'd think he'd bring his A game to a high profile gig, but there's basically nothing here. Dull dialogue, boring characters and a story that spans six issues and I feel like I could summarize what happened in two sentences. And no, it's not because all the characters are their PC temporary replacements, if anything what little mileage Waid gets out of that makes up the few moments when the book doesn't read like printed sleeping pills.

I've got 8 more issues of this crap piled up, but I may just scrap it from my pull list and never read the rest.

Is that the one that takes place after Doctor Doom's Secret Wars? Where Stark is broke but the rest of Marvel forgot so he's rich again? Post Secret Wars Marvel was terrible. Post Civil War 2 is even worse.

I don't know, I stopped following all of that shit a long time ago. Stark is broke, yeah, and it's before Civil War 2, whatever that means. It doesn't seem to be necessary to know any of that shit, though, which I guess is one of the few things Waid got right.

I sometimes wonder if Mark Waid doesn't have a ghost writer or secret partner or something.

I'd say corporate comic book writers in general have a tendency to, let's say, distinguish between those projects they actually want to do and those they just happily sign on to do for the paycheck and then completely phone in. There are piles and piles of Warren Ellis comics that are completely unreadable garbage. It's just that you don't necessarily hear about those because he sells his shit scripts to smaller publishers, probably hoping they'll disappear.

So what surprises me isn't that Waid wrote something sub-standard, but that it's such a high-profile book and something that you'd think plays to his strengths. It's a straight-up superhero book with angsty young characters. That's Waid's bread and butter, and he totally fucked it up.

Maybe he just figures since these aren't the real Avengers, it doesn't matter. Or he's pissed that Marvel wouldn't let him play with the big names and gave him Black Captain America and Boobs Thor instead.

Actually reading through all of Sin City in publication order. First time for me.

It's fucking awesome how the movie took all the dialogue straight from the pages, cutting around the MASSIVELY RACIST quips that pop up CONSTANTLY - like I know this entire conversation between these two characters EXCEPT the part about lousy gook drivers.

I think Torsan would really like Sin City...

Nameless 9/10
Some of Morrison's comics just confuse me (The Filth), but some of his more out there books just work for me. Nameless is as far out as it gets, incredibly nihilistic and psychedelic, good to great artwork, left a lasting impression.

Re-read Arkham Asylum because it's April 1st.

Still 10/10 and the greatest comicbook ever made.

Continuing my old Daredevil re-read. While the Frank Miller stuff is very good, and a vast improvement over the horseshit that precluded it, I still prefer the John Romita Jr run that starts with Typhoid Mary.
