every time i talk to fuckin suffo fans it's effigy this and effigy that but pierced, man, those fucking riffs and the intensity is just overwhelming, and frank is coherent and vicious

well lets see what it started...downtuned decent riff patterns, lowered the vocals to gargle, sharpened time changes to the all-too-familiar chugga deathgrind sound. effigy is a decent record in time context, but it'd be fully accurate to say I hate the sound in general, without suffocation we wouldn't have had a dying fetus, internal bleeding, dehumanized, on and on and on...

it'd make sense if the degression furthered the medium...CHUGGA CHUGGA just made it more accessible to meatheads everywhere. effigy is a good album, and the thread title was overboard, but no one can deny suffocation was a BAD direction for death metal, riffless, bass-aligned, horseshit...worthless...really and truly BAD

Despise the Sun has been my favorite release of theirs, Pierced is a close second.

Pierced from Within is obviously their best. Despise the Sun is a fucking piece of shit and should never have happened. My only problem with Suffocation, really, is that they're catalog is a bit spotty. When they're good, they're great, but when they're bad... yawn.
