There are now solutions that don't require a game at all, but I haven't done much research into it. Apparently it's easier now.

yeah about two years back i softmodded mine with just an sd card and about 15 minutes of free time. easiest hack ever
if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Do you remember what the exploit you used was called? I'm guessing Letterbomb? I'm wondering what we should direct Cubes towards

i'm guessing this

it depends on what the system version of your Wii is. Once you get the thing check that and everyone will figure everything out

Geoff, if you do all this let me know. I'm not willing to brick my Wii over an uncertainty.

ultimately the only thing that matters is that something you buy is your property and you can do whatever you want to it. The only thing you void by doing things like this is a software agreement, which has no significant legal meaning and is only relevant if you plan on using the games on their privately-owned online services. Mod YOUR system? Fine, but you can't play on OUR server.

the machine Nintendo produced is just easy to exploit, like the death star with its hilarious exhaust port thing

once you change the software, the only thing they can do is release new software which overwrites your changes and then try to force you to download it

with the Wii, all you have to do is turn off a menu option called 'wii connect 24'. If you do that, your system never connects to Nintendo's network to check for updates

the end

the thing that prevents this from being manageable with a PS3 or a 360 is that you need to use their online network to play games online

oh, you stole that copy of Halo? Fuck you, you're banned, or maybe the new patch for the operating system turns your console into a brick

the people who host the sites that explain how to do all this simply don't host or link to any copyrighted content, which keeps them beyond the reach of any legal objection (for the most part)

you go to WWW.WIIHACKERS.COM to hack your wii... and then once that's done, you go to regular torrent sites to get the actual goods

yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

I really want to mod this fucking thing, especially if I can play Deja Vu from the NES days. :-|
I seriously doubt it. There should be a mod for any system menu version.

Deja Vu and Stonekeep are pretty rough to play through these days man, I don't want to deter you but you have to be pretty damn patient

I suck at this kind of stuff so expect tons of pants soiling in this thread as I some how manage to set fire to my apartment while attempting the mod.
no problemo man the worst that can happen is that I actually go outside away from the computer for 30 minutes and I can't reply right away

...doubt you'll have to worry about that

I read around a little bit and I'm pretty sure that if you use the Letterbomb mod (which I'm starting to think is your best bet) it won't matter what size your SD card is.

If your system updated last night, you should be using 4.3 now, which means this is your guide:

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/LetterBomb

Basically, get a SD card of any size below 32 GB. You will need at least 4GB to store stuff of value. For example rips of contemporary retail games or double penetration videos.

Pisscubes wrote:You said there were a few glaring exceptions of what systems you can run on the modded wii. Which ones don't make the cut?
N64 emulation is shoddy. Not worth fucking with in my opinion. The exception to this is that Nintendo released a bunch of N64 games as virtual console releases, which you can install yourself. If you get around to wanting to do that I can show you how. Easy stuff.

PS1, Dreamcast, and Saturn all technically have emulators available but they're basically just overblown software tests and probably won't give you much pleasure.

Early computers and DOS are all emulated but it's stupid because playing those games pretty much require a keyboard. You can get a Wii keyboard if you want but it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Yep!

You have to install the emulators too, but... we'll do that when you get there.

Pisscubes wrote:Shit, I realize I don't actually have a card reader for my computer. Pretty sure my audio device (zoom h4n) can act simply as a drive though. I know I can take files off the card that way, I'm betting I should be able to put them on too.
When I did this originally I used a broken digital camera as an SD card reader. I can't promise that absolutely everything could work in that way but I'm pretty sure you're good.

So how come I bring back this MILF a cradle she lost, she tells she has something for me back at her place (if you know what I mean) and we go back there and I get goddam fishing tackle? What kind Jimmy Buffet Fan-itry is this? I though Link was a man's man...
Shit! Maybe he's the Link between Herero and gay friend that women want as the perfect boy friend.
