exactly this, it's like come on man. eham was watching the bame w us for a littlebit and he was complaining about how nba players couldn't make shots, probably was watching josh smith at the line

as big and long as he is, its like shooting into a wastepaper basket

some of those big saquatch motherfuckers (drummond, jordan, howard) than can't shoot past one (1) foot you kind of expect to suck at the line, but when you are jacking threes with regularity it's maddening...

Howard was decent from the line last night, I give him that.

I'll never understand Josh Smith's shooting. Besides the free throws, he'll go from being horrendous to LeBron James. It's weird. Fun at times... if I had to guess, I think his 3pt % in the playoffs was pretty damn good.

edit: it was 38%
He destroyed the Clippers with it, and the Warriors for one game

Also I think he's just kinda dumb

his shot selection has always been his weak point: he fancies himself a pure shooter when he's definitely a guy whose mechanics require certain release points and a cadence that isn't always available at all points and in all windows; but that's a chucker mentality, one that's super hard to deprogram

the weird thing is that he's actually got the physical gifts to be a way more inside-out player than he is. is it laziness? bad brain? maybe. but he's got the assets to be a defensive matchup nightmare, but for the fact that he takes dumb shots and bricks them way too often

harden bringing up the ball and running the offense masks smith's shortcomings as help defense has to come from the perimeter (because howard), leading to open looks. which explain his percentages: harden has good games, the defense has to cheat toward the lanes, he's shooting near 40%; harden gets tied up, no need to pack the lane, smith is left to (hahahaha) create his own space or actually, like, do something

so basically smith is an adjuvant offensive player in the harden iteration of a single-option-dribble drive motion scheme, meaning that your substitution pattern is the second harden leaves the floor, smith is ghost like swayze or else you're about to hear a lot of clunking off long iron

was just watching this finals preview thing on espn and the two dudes were going down this list: front court, back court, coaching, bench, intangibles, maybe another one can't remember and one of them gave the coaching to blatt instead of kerr

i mean blatt has an actual coaching career prior to this year? just not stateside; this year, though, kerr really showed he's more than capable of the job

really hoping kyrie's injury is minor and resolves like now; i want this to be a slugfest, not attrition

I think Kyrie's done for the year. I'd be shocked if he can go.

Warriors in full health, with that full bench are just too deep for anyone to beat 4 times.

Game 1 was a hellava game though.

what a disappointment for basketball fans tho; without the injuries, the cavs are on paper a super fun team to watch. also on paper, kevin love could have been a total nightmare coming off the bench for golden state's second unit, and that woul d have been some a+ tv

also who wouldn't want a team with jr smith actually contending for a chip? the guy is fuckin murdock, but only occasionally gets out of the asylum long enough to hurt the other guys

I don't REALLY understand how this all could work out under salary cap, but looking more like Love will return...and Thompson. Another constant injury disaster (but nice player when ON the court) Varajao will be back. Smith still has another year I think... Shumpert is a very nice player and is a free agent but I believe also restricted. But only so much $$ to go around.

If everyone healthy Cavs bench wouldn't be quite the disaster it is.. assuming starting James, Irving, Mosgov, Love, Smith... bench of Thompson Varajao Shumpert isn't a bad start.

Rest of the bench (GM Lebron) are old and not contributing squat..Miller, Marrion, Jones--though Jones has had a few decent games in playoff run. not much on end of the bench.

Two guys on GS's bench Livingston and Speights are former Cavs that last jackass GM couldn't see their value.

remember cap gets way higher with the new tv contract, so that helps a lot. plus i think james is at the point in his career where he will restructure as needed to keep key pieces. if they can keep the general lineup from this year, that'll take mileage off everybody's tires in the regular season barring the freak injuries, which will minimize those sprainy/strainy/-itisy conditions that are more due to repetitive stressors than some galoot landing on you funny

next year they just need younger bodies to occupy garbage minutes, preferably with some perimeter shooting skills. like dellavedova, who's cheap and at least keeps defenses honest.

yeah I expect Dellavadova will be back, he's a cheap restricted free agent and they trust his decision making even in crunch time despite his athletic limitations.

I expect cavs will be willing to go in the luxury tax red zone, after all the owner owns a casino across the street, so his pea-counters probably have some estimate of how buzz of cavs and people around it winds up as extra loot.

Shumpert I think is a nice piece who has made a big difference to what was a soft ass defensive team before he arrived. In some ways perhaps plays an even more important role than Love.

But I guess this injury mess shows how you can't have TOO much scoring. That whole "there's only so many shots to go around" argument falls apart when your scoring trio is 2/3 on the shelf.

Great

JR Smith is the Josh Smith of guards

jr smith is far better a natural shooter, and is capable of creating his own shot way better than josh smith any day. jr smith is one of those guys limited by personality and not talent. with a lebron running the show, he is dangerous and puts in effort on d and in passing; when that alpha dog is melo and/or a coach he can tune out, he's gonna try to get his at the expense of everybody else.

bottom line is he's so fun to watch, regardless of whether he's going off or going down. who else is that fun in the league today? westbrook in full fuck you mode? there are few players so bipolar in their output that their disaster games are as fun as their sportscenter reels

I meant it sort of in respect to their positions, and now that Irving is out I want to see how consistent he is... and Josh's talent is limited by his personality, I thought - that he's just kind of a dumb dumb, but not exactly neurotic or anything.
