Have you not noticed the board game thread that has been bumped about 20 times a day by Eham?

I have heard mixed things about last night on earth but Arkham horror is supposed to be good. They are both apprently very true to their theme which I assume is aplus for you.

Eham and Streven seem to be the board experts on Arkham, I am sure that they will be posting here soon. I may be confusing last night on earth with Zombies! in regards to the reviews.

I prefer Euro games to 'Ameritrash' so I am not the best for recommendations.

Settlers of Cataan is kind of a nerd favorite.

Arkham DOES have a shit ton of rules and it is a slut to set up and then put away, but the rules are fairly simple and it's well worth the time.

I should probably post this in Eham's thread, but how steep is the learning curve for Arkham, and how long does a normal game session last? I really want to play it, but I'm not sure I have big enough blocks of free time. I need express games. Speed chess.

Learning curve: small. Legth: LONG.

This game is fantastic for something simple to go along with alcohol.

I know this isn't exactly aligned with the other games being discussed, but it is a very nerdy board game. At my old house we used to all play it together probably once a week, was a lot of fun.

Depends on how nerdy you want to get. In case you want to go all out, there's this:

You gotta admit though the demo dungeon is pretty sweet...

Also, this is basically a board game that only programmers would really get into from what I remember.

A friend of mine (who happens to be into computer science...go figure) got this recently, so I got to try it out. It's a blast! I didn't have high expectations over a game that was basically a board game in Karel ++, but those were tossed aside pretty quickly. I got in on a three-player game, and that was chaotic enough. I can only imagine eight people at once.

Arkham Horror is difficult at first. It took me about five sessions before I had the rules down. There are always a few things you'll miss. The longest session was 8 hours, and I think everyone was let down by that because we could have been actually gaming during that time, and it would have been more rewarding. I have the Innsmouth expansion, but really the game itself is challenging enough where we haven't needed it.

A coworker just bought FF's Tide of Iron and we're playing that on Monday night.

Settlers and those other major Euro board games are great.

This comes out in a week or two...

I always let her be the heroes in Last Night on Earth cause the game is skewed toward them if you ask me.

She's won every time we've played.

Until FRIDAY.

Finally, the zombies triumph. 8)
I find this hard to believe. I see zombies win much more, and not just because I have seen some less tactful heroes in some games.

I think the scenario can make a big difference, too, like playing the basic scenario where only two heroes dying leads to a zombie victory.
