That blows. It's no fun being railroaded into a campaign that only the GM wants.
I feel so lucky to have had kickass, think on their feet, let the game go where it goes type of GM's for the past few years.

That's almost exactly what it is like.

It's so fucking bizarre.

He had a fucking ghost inhabit the body of one of our horses so WE had to kill it. One of my party tried to punch it unconscious but the DM made a roll that we failed so he ended up beating it to death.

It's a battle of wills at this point. We went out of our way to go back to town to buy more horses.
are you playing over in cambridge?

Luckily we take turns DMing-- and this one has been so awful that we've now switched it up to letting him DM every OTHER session for his campaign. The other dudes actually understand their job is to facilitate story and fun.

I'm building a home brew and once I feel comfortable with the 5e rules I will put my name on the list to DM. I haven't done it since I was a kid.

If you take over as DM have the characters be graced by the Horse Gods and a magical unkillable horse spawns for the characters anytime they wish.

What system / D&D version are you using?
We've been playing Dungeon World GM-mods for the past few campaigns. It's been rad.

A retaliatory horse-god revenge campaign should absolutely be called Serfdom in Equestria

role-playing and avoiding an awareness of how fucking lame and ridiculous what you're doing is is delicate work, and the suspension of cynicism that's required sounds really fucking difficult in the face of campaigns drawn up by the equine dahmer

stalliongrad?

that's not to say that D&D isn't a creative/fun/worthwhile way to spend your time, it's just that rolling dice to determine the efficacy of a spell you just cast is decidedly un-cool in a way that fires off threat signals to that vestigial high-school reputation center in my brain. I think that's actually totally fucked up and unhealthy, but hey.

If you slapped this guy, do you think he'd just curl up into a ball and sob? How you put up with this, I'll never know. Is he like the surrogate for the Doctor boss from your old job, or some such malarkey?

First rule of D&D rule tweak, don't talk about D&D rule tweak.
