Good episode, though. I liked the little narrative gimmick of having Tyrion narrate the battle for Casterly Rock because it helped set it apart from last week's battle, and Olenna Tyrell's death scene was pretty great.

I'm scared to read anything about it online, though, because now that Jon Snow and Daenerys are in the same location, I'm guessing the fanfic crowd's panties are collectively soaking.

i watched this most recent episode with my wife, having not watched much of anything else of the show; i saw the skull-crushing scene that one queen bitch talked about oddly enough?!?!?!?

this show is trash ultimately

They've really improved in their battle scenes since the Blackwater Bay battle.

About time they finally showed those dragons and Dothraki fuck some shit up after, what, six years of talking about it. But is every episode going to end in a battle now?

I dunno, it's just something I've noticed. So far they've been good about making every battle be different and meaningful, but there's only so many ways you can film medieval battle scenes, and it'll eventually get repetitive. Obviously things are ramping up because everyone's hit their level caps and unlocked the endgame, but that doesn't mean every episode has to be structured the same from now on.

they've really gone overboard with the westoros teleportation. I thought robb's 7 episode march towards his death wedding and danys 6 season journey to westoros was annoying, but now its gone in the complete opposite direction where everything is done so quickly that its hard to get worked up over anything. jaime having to get back and tell cersei about the destructive force of the dragons would have been a five episode arc in the earlier seasons and here it was done in in ten minutes. it honestly feels like a totally different show. maybe not necessarily worse but different

that was the weakest episode so far this season but the next one looks good

Yeah, public transport sure has gotten a lot faster in Westeros these days, but I don't mind that things are moving along faster. Just makes you wonder how well they'd actually planned all of this - I still haven't read any of the books, but it does seem like they took their time more earlier on, and now they have to cram a thousand things into every minute.

Thing is, though, it still works for me, and I actually thought this episode was a good example - they still take their time to let the characters' shared histories pay off when they run into each other. I guess that means they're glossing over the nerdier nuts and bolts aspects of the story (How did Jaime get back to King's Landing, where did Arya learn to pick locks, etc) in favor of the character-driven stuff that the general audience wants to see, but I'm ok with that.

What really didn't work this episode, as usual, was Daenerys. First Tyrion spends half the episode hand-wringing about how she's turning into Hitler, and then it's like, ah, fuck it, let's have her be reasonable and nice and make teary eyes and Ser Friendzone again. I almost thought she was getting interesting for a minute there.

"I thought you'd still be rowing."

There's less than 10 episodes left so things need to happen and happen fast. Read the fourth book, A Feast For Crows, and see how a story can come crashing to a halt in the name of character development and world building. I'm just glad I'm getting some kind of resolution to the series via the show because the books are never going to be finished.

I'm hyped for the team of badass misfits trekking North of The Wall and I kind of hope the entire episode focuses on them. Also, I really hope we get Jon's reaction to being a Targaryen this season. The wait has been too long.

Weirdest fast travel for me was Jon talking about going to the wall and being there 5 minutes later. If it's that close why doesn't Daenerys take a long lunch and head up there with a dragon to verify that the white walkers are real so we don't have to listen to another conversation about that? If the fate of the world hangs in the balance, you'd think she'd be more curious.

Also the amount of reunions and the pace at which they're happening is sucking a lot of the drama out of them. It really does feel like a different show; I get that it's out of necessity with only a handful of episodes left, but it's such a stark (stfu) contrast to how the show used to be.

 Totally. They crammed a possible 10-15 pov chapters into 70 minutes and it ruled.

The amount of future book material that is being dodged/eliminated has got to be huge, like 90% or more. They're running out of time fast, only 8 episodes left after this. All they can do at this point is wrap up the expectations people had from the first 5 books. It's going to end up being so incomplete and different from wherever the last 2 books go, if they ever get done, that another more detailed take on the whole series is inevitable. It is going to be a permanent property/universe thing with spinoff series and all, so the ultimate complete all 7 books version is still something that could (and should) be done someday. It is becoming clear that GoT was just the beginning, and the ultimate ASoIaF series/production is still yet to be made. But probably not for another 20 years.

I was surprised so many of them lived ? I figured we'd get a couple big deaths, particularly Jorah with how hard they've been teasing it.

See, what The Walking Dead was missing the whole time was dragons. Seriously, that ice water standoff was so zombie movie, it was kind of weird.

I actually thought Tormund was going to kick the bucket because just as the wights started dragging him into the water, I realized they'd done that thing where they give a character a lot of lines to make him likeable minutes before they kill him off.

The low point has to be Uncle Benjen showing up completely out of nowhere for absolutely no purpose other than the little bit of extra tension and Daenerys realizing she's got the hots for Jon Snow. That might've been the single most retarded scene in the entire show so far.

Anyway, is it too early for the final death pool? My guess is Sam saves the world, and nobody thinks it's hilarious that the fat bookworm ends up being the hero of the story, retroactively turning the entire book series into a protracted Mary Sue story.

It was weird because of how stupid the whole thing was.
All the worst impossible saves. Jon sacrificing himself, only to resurface right next to his sword.
And the way they drag Thoros to the rock just to freeze to death.
...terrible.

Did not see ice dragon coming, though, so that was pretty badass/devastating

So pretty much that mission was the worst idea ever and Tyrion gives horrible advice. (Originally coming up with the idea of capturing the wights, taking Casterly rock, giving the slavers 7 years, etc.)

I bet Little Finger is actually dead and Arya's wearing his face.
