I liked the format of ~50 minute "movies," it really helps protect against movies that would have dragged at the 90 minute mark.
I watched this yesterday and it was pretty good - disappointed that he didn't travel to the different dimensions

I'm still a Lovecraft noon but if you discover a movie called Cthulu Mansion, avoid it unless you want to see a comedy.

here's a DM concept album in the mythos

Incantation atmosphere with Immolation intensity, I guess?

edit: this sounded way better on a big stereo than on headphones... this band kinda sucks

That is potentially great news as that is definitely one of HPL's weirder stories and Richard Stanley is off-the-fucking-rails crazy. You see the doc about his his disastrous attempt at making the Island of Dr. Moreau in the 90's? Shit is awesome.

thanks for the reminder on that documentary - I'd heard of it but blanked. I think that inspired me to look up the one with val kilmer, which always seemed so cool but I've always been terrified to watch since it's supposedly atrocious.

The one with Val Kilmer is the same one that Richard Stanley attempted to make. He ended up basically getting ousted from the production after several weeks and replaced by John Frankenheimer, who didn't fare much better. After they kicked him out, he ended up sneaking back onto set as one of the hybrids and kind of meddling with the production while also living in the woods and shit. Crazy stuff. The stuff in the documentary about Kilmer and Brando's behavior is also fucking insane. Can't recommend it enough.

I have had Eldritch Horror since last Christmas and haven't played it once :( :( :(

I still play Elder Sign all the time on my phone and it consistently pisses me off more than anything I have ever experienced in my entire fucking life

That is a solid tactic that has proven effective on multiple occasions; you obviously know what's up

You play any of the expansions? I'm partial to the Dark Pharaoh one but they are all good. They will, however, make you want to throw your phone into the fucking street

I have them all, can't beat Ithaqua, but beat Cthulhu on my first try which primed me for supreme disappointment when the others hammered me hard.

I also have the physical game which is easier and recommended.

http://nnedi.blogspot.com/2011/12/lovec ... award.html

“So where does that leave the World Fantasy Award? Well, in my case, I have always done something very specific and simple. I consider the award inextricable from but not reducible to Lovecraft himself. Therefore, I was very honoured to receive the award as representative of a particular field of literature. And the award itself, the statuette of the man himself? I put it out of sight, in my study, where only I can see it, and I have turned it to face the wall. So I am punishing the little fucker like the malevolent clown he was, I can look at it and remember the honour, and above all I am writing behind Lovecraft’s back. ”

mallard you need to caption that - it's not some nerd's attempt at CGI weirdness... it's a photo of a fungus-riddled fly head. that's insane!

ANYWAY i figured we could talk CooS spoilers in here... maybe there's not too much to talk about. we shall see.
• I loved the last part the most - from the tape playback in Ezra's shed all the way to the end
• thinking about this movie the next day, remembering its scenes feels more like dream recollections than anything else. that has to be some sort of win on the lovecraft scale
• I can't believe how unabashedly it lifted from The Thing! that one scene felt like Mandy x The Thing
• there were so many great moments in this movie... I keep wondering if it could have been edited differently to make it perfect. I think losing the energy tentacles might've been wise? the older son who got got by the well... it was a big nothing.
• in the beginning I was like "oooooh, they're giving us hints that the water is important - I am an astute cineaste"; then for the entire rest of the movie it's just WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER
• the brief moment when the mom was fed up RULED
• I don't think I emphasized it above: the audio processing on the Ezra playback was impeccable
