Also, "And Maggie makes Three."

* Homer devising a clever way to triple the bowling alley's business. Suddenly, an epiphany: he starts shooting shotgun shells outside yelling "Bowling here, get your bowling. Come in for bowling." "Mom, make dad tell the story right." "That's the way it happened."

Fuck I wish there were more Simpsons YouTube clips.

I remember as a kid when the Simpsons came out all my classmates were masto batin over the show, but I never gave it much of a chance and always shrugged the show off. I didn't really care for the Christmas special, which was my only unfurled Simpsons experience at that point. All those Bartman shirts everybody wore  . That was until I caught this scene by accident a few years after and saw the error of my ways.

Though, if you had a gun to my head, I might say season 6 episode 15, Homie the Clown.

its like you are posting from inside my head.

yeah, my friends and I watched seasons 3-9 and after that we decided to pull the plug - there are decent episodes in 9 but I think that's when the majority become stinkers for the first time

that chili cookoff episode in season 8 is the harbinger of the end

I could have sworn I made a thread for "best season" but I also remember it being limited to 5 options or something so it must've been on another incarnation of the board

you did make that thread. i was going to post in there but i decided fuck that.

by the way totally agree that 8 is where it all starts going downhill. ill watch season ten eventually, but i know that was like the weakest of all seasons. all seasons being 1-10. i know i didnt have to specify that, especially in this thread, but we all know some dope will say something lame and not very clever and start some stupid war of bullshit and gaylordery

Season 10 was certainly the last hurrah. 11 has some good ones but it's about 50/50. After that it's simply not even watchable. After looking over my list of favorite episodes, it seems that 7 was the greatest of them all.

10 I also think was when I just stopped caring and went into the loop of watching a random ep from 1 to 10 every so often.

We had a huge eatbeast woman come through work today and immediately this line went through my head, from where Homer was in a barbershop quartet.

Homer: "We'd like to dedicate this next one to a special woman. She's over 100 feet tall and weighs over 200 tons"
Person: "THIS ENORMOUS WOMAN WILL DEVOUR US ALL!!!" *dives off ship*
Homer: "I...meant the statue."

listen man just because it's obvious doesn't we should stop talking about it

the downfall of the simpsons is one of the greatest tragedies of humanity and it would be a great social tragedy for people to stop thinking about it or acknowledging it

furthermore we're up to our necks in actual retards who can't tell the difference

this is not a trivial issue

The worst thing is that I always relied on good syndicated episodes to always be a nice fall back on TV when there was nothing on. Now, if I'm even lucky enough to find a syndicated episode on TV, it's always a post-millenium episode. Pisses me off like no other.

"Lisa on Ice" is probably my favorite if I can force myself to name one - the hockey episode.

"Don't make me run, I'm full of chocolate!"
"Sports, Sports, Sports, Sports, Sports"
"Competitive Violence - That's why you're here!"

Marge: Kids can be so cruel.
Bart: We can? Thanks, Mom.

Principal Skinner: First academic alert: Wiggum, Ralph.
Ralph Wiggum: I won! I won!
Principal Skinner: No, no, Ralph, this means you're failing English.
Ralph Wiggum: Me fail English? That's unpossible!

Principal Skinner: Attention, students, this is Principal Skinner, your principal, with a message from the principal's office. Report immediately for an assembly in the Butthead Memorial Auditorium.
[to himself]
Principal Skinner: Damn it, I wish we hadn't let the students name that one.

And of course:
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
Lisa: Bart, just get out of here.
Bart Simpson: Hey, you get out out. It's a free country.
Lisa: That doesn't make any sense.
Bart Simpson: I know you are, but what am I?
Lisa: Get out, get out!
Bart Simpson: All right. But on my way, I'm going to be doing this...
[windmills his arms]
Bart Simpson: If you get hit, it's your own fault.
Lisa: Okay, then I'm going to start kicking air, like this...
[kicks up her foot]
Lisa: And if any part of you should fill that air...
[kicks up her other foot]
Lisa: It's *your* own fault.
[They shut their eyes and move toward each other, grunting as they flail or kick. Cut to downstairs in the kitchen, where Marge and Homer are. Their grunts soon turn to yells of pain, and sounds of fighting]
[Marge hears Bart and Lisa fighting upstairs]
Marge Simpson: Oh, I'd better go check on them. Now, Homer, don't you eat this pie.
Homer: All right, Marge.
[Marge exits]
Homer: All right, pie. I'm going to start doing this...
[makes chomping motion]
Homer: -and if you get eaten, it's your own fault.
[He shuts his eyes, and moves toward the pie, making chomping motions, but hits his head on the stove hood]
Homer: OW! AH! Oh, my... oh, to hell with it.
[eats pie]

First bad episode: Two Bad Neighbors

Early omen: Lisa singing with the image of Bleeding Gums Murphy playing sax in the clouds.

True angel of Death: Shary Bobbins

Anyway, to pick this post up, I wanted to at least post one of my favorite bits from the Simpsons, but I could only find this compilation of grandpa's stories. Well worth the viewing (the favorite section being from Last Exit to Springfield; if you know anything, you'll know which scene I mean):

I agree that Two Bad Neighbors isn't a good episode but I still love it. It's really juvenile but there's still a bunch of laughs. The introduction of Disco Stu was great, unfortunately he overstayed his welcome in the show.

Two Bad Neighbors is a really obvious sellout episode. I think that's in a different category. But yeah all that weird/bad shit in the first two seasons could have meant disaster, instead they got their shit together and became awesome. Just like Iron Maiden after their first two.

Actually, it's too bad that Simpsons 8/9 are unquestionably awesome because otherwise things sync up pretty well with Iron Maiden albums (where 8/9 are weak).
