I've attempted to attend a 'con' type thing maybe twice in my life. The last was some 'Texas Frightmare' horror convention. I mainly bought a ticket to peruse the dealers tables, thinking I might find someone with old bondage or crime magazines, or maybe some obscure poster from some shit movie in the 70s. I almost literally couldn't make it through the merchant room without walking out. (I actually left after I saw every table - maybe was there a total of 15 minutes.)

I was filled with rage and disgust with these people. I kept thinking... sure, we have similar interests, but we have nothing in common and I don't want anything to do with these people. From the eatbeasts snagging up XXXXL "this is my boomstick" limited edition Ash t-shirts, to the sluts walking around in vinyl. All damaged. All attention whores. Their stench of failure physically made me nauseous.

Thank god for the internet, where I can get what I want but never have to deal with these types face to face again.

ok so now that the 1972 film grain enthusiast and our resident power metal/JRPG expert have both weighed in on the issue

The only one of these that I haven't liked so far is Jimmy Olsen. He seemed like a sociopath in my expert opinion.

I'm not even close to being any kind of JRPG expert, and the only evidence of my love for power metal are on my iPod and this board.

James, I just want to say that you are one of my favorite posters on this board and I have much :brokenheart: for you but I completely disagree with your standpoint on these types of people. That is all I will say.

If I had to side with someone back in high school, these geeks (with similar interests to mine), or the jocks (zero in common with) - I would pull for the meatheads. The problem isn't these people aren't 'treated right' by society - the problem is they weren't stuffed into lockers ENOUGH. There is no excuse for these people. Shows like this/social support of 'geekdom' or whatever just reinforces every aspect of their failed development.

If you are an adult male and your room looks like this:

Then you need the living shit beaten out of you regularly, until you realize that your room shouldn't look like that.
yeah but doesn't your house look exactly like this except replaced little girl anime stuff with pictures of the devil fucking hitlers pussy and dead people?

I guess the point is, if you aren't into what I'm into, you need your head caved in? I have pretty much zero interest in any anime besides the few that I really liked such as Akira and Fist of the North Star, however I cannot understand the hatred towards those who delve into the genre fanatically and get their jollies off in it. stare at the kettle smeggy boy.

it also doesn't help that the example he posted is the room of some 20+ japanese dude in japan that still lives with his parents. talk about a society that supports and coddles the socially inept. i guarantee that the boy responsible for the accumulation of shit in that photo has more in common with smegma than any of the con geeks he seems to hate upon so much. get your shit straight, son.

I have a Mickey Mouse electric blanket... my ex-girlfriend was a big fan.

...though it is entirely possible that the prefix 'ex-' says more about that sentence than the rest of the sentence does...

really? so the walls of "insert interest here" dvd's, posters, etc, are fine, but the bedsheets are the line? if you are commited to that kind of fanatic way of living, where is the line?

Discussion shifts gears; goes from "adult talk" to an interior decorator convention.

This is some top-notch comedy gold here, gents, keep it up.

It's just a coping mechanism, man, the abject horror at what other people keep in their "rooms" is too much for me to bear otherwise.
