During Rey's vision, I'm almost positive they played audio of Luke screaming "Nooo!" from Empire when he realizes Vader is his father. That has to be some sort of foreshadowing about her own lineage, right?
EDIT: Or, as the above post illustrates, it could also be just because that was the last time the saber was seen in proximity of Anakin and Luke. I want to see the movie again just so I can see and dissect that scene further.
I loved the movie. I'd say it's the 3rd best film in the franchise, easily.
1) The Empire Strikes Back
2) A New Hope
3) The Force Awakens
4) Return of the Jedi
5) Revenge of the Sith
6) The Phantom Menace
7) Attack of the Clones

She has to be related to the Skywalkers somehow because she has the Force, there's the whole thing where Luke's lightsaber is apparently calling out to her, and her entire arc so far mirrors Luke's - right down to a scene with a setting sun in the desert. So yeah, I'm going with that.SPOILERSPOILER_SHOWThere's a pretty popular third theory that she's a KenobiSPOILERSPOILER_SHOW

Would Obi-Wan have really just broken his oaths like that after the destruction of the Jedi? He was never one to question the Jedi Order or their rules and regulations. For him to father any child seems wildly out of character. It's less obvious than Rey being Luke's daughter, but I don't know how much sense it would make.

yeah, here's the exhaustive argument that rey is a kenobi:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ben-ostro ... 11656.html
I appreciate this since it gives me something to ponder as an alternative to the skywalker conclusion, but I think it's a stretch. obi-wan was basically ignored in VII, which tells me they're moving away from him. it'd be too weird to bring him back up in VIII as someone that's important to the new story they're telling. he was only really in one movie anyway...

Nobody mentioned him directly, but Ren's name is Ben. That seems to be the film's way of addressing him without calling out Obi Wan directly. And you can hear both old and young Obi Wan speaking during Rey's vision, so it's not like they're ignoring him completely. The English accent thing is also interesting.Necrometer wrote:yeah, here's the exhaustive argument that rey is a kenobi:

Either way, the second VII ended, I was excited to see the next chapter, and that hasn't happened to me after watching a Star Wars film since the first time I saw Empire.

Re: Consumption Be Done About These New Star Wars Movies ?!?!
these are cute nods that the diehards appreciate; my point is that these movies are also interested in telling a story to someone that isn't a SW dork and if kenobi would be a big payoff in VIII, then they would have at least talked about him in this one. the kenobi voice is barely audible in that vision anyway... the character needs to be re-established if he's going to be the source of a connection like that.godofdeadlydeath wrote:Nobody mentioned him directly, but Ren's name is Ben. Of the current characters, Luke is the only one with a strong connection to Obi Wan, and Luke was barely in the film. I think it's very possible for Luke to explain and emphasize Obi Wan's importance in the next film, but I see your side too.Necrometer wrote:these are cute nods that the diehards appreciate; my point is that these movies are also interested in telling a story to someone that isn't a SW dork and if kenobi would be a big payoff in VIII, then they would have at least talked about him in this one. the kenobi voice is barely audible in that vision anyway... the character needs to be re-established if he's going to be the source of a connection like that.godofdeadlydeath wrote:Nobody mentioned him directly, but Ren's name is Ben. I've heard people complain that this scene went on too long. I guess I was just swept up in the music and the moment, but I didn't mind the helicopter shots. To me, it just made the moment feel that much bigger, but I get the complaint that it was drawn out.Honky Kong 64 wrote:The most part of the movie for me was

Re: Consumption Be Done About These New Star Wars Movies ?!?!
That whole Mr. Plinkett review was like an exercise in being contrary without a single solid argument for your contrarianisms. He's basically arguing for another origin story to be included so we know what the force is shortly after criticizing The Force Awakens for being effectively that.
As for his three checkpoints, I think the critique that the characters lack depth is also pretty hollow. Jyn is fully fleshed out with motivation, character arc, growth.. many other characters seem to have a back story and reason to exist without having them explicitly spelled out. I actually don't need to sit through every character's backstory to relate to them and kind of appreciate that you don't get told Chirrut's backstory for example, and can understand who he is regardless. I didn't have a problem with the story, and in fact think it was blissfully simple and direct where the prequels are so dense with WHO CARES bullshit. As for emotion, I mean, if you don't like the characters then you're not going to be terribly emotionally involved, and I do think this was the weakest part of the movie, but only because they tried so hard to make it emotional and thrilling with everything being LAST SECOND SAVES and also but it wasn't like Attack of the Clones where halfway through you're left stabbing yourself in the leg with a pen just to make sure you can still feel.
I'm not saying Rogue One isn't without flaws; in fact I think it has a number of them. I am saying this Mr. Plinkett review doesn't address any of them and is hot garbage.

I liked it plenty. My only real complaint with the plot overall was
Other than that, good movie, clearly better than TFA (not that I didn't like that one.) I kept thinking how these were by far the most likable characters I've seen in a Star Wars movie since the original trilogy, and how great it was that they had conflicting motivations and flaws, and didn't always act the way you'd expect them to. And basically filling in that plot hole about the Death Star with this awesome, tragic Mads Mikkelsen storyarc actually makes the original trilogy better. You know, the way a prequel should.
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
the way the space battle was shoehorned into the third act. All of a sudden the rebels change their mind and decide to show up anyway because, uh, X-Wings. It's just a little too obvious that there was an earlier version where that didn't happen, and it reminded me a bit of how the "totally not a Death Star" appeared out of nowhere towards the end of TFA.
