It depends on what the subject is. If it's a videogame thing or a twentysomething fad for folks with no lives, guess what: there will be assholes. I check in on stuff I am interested in and/or know there won't be assholes in: firearms, hunting, woodworking, insurance, etc. I only use reddit semi regularly but for stuff more mature folks are into. After I hit submit here I'm going to put a self-satisfied look on my face and lean back while folding my arms.
