So someone involved in gamergate ended up being a complete human vacuum pile of dogshit that should be tossed into a rendering vat? I can’t imagine! ( I’m willing to play devils advocate and assume it might a situation where the boyfriend/porn producer was forcing her into it with threats of violence or murder but that’s about as far my benefit of the doubt is willing to stretch)

I'm gonna go ahead and not watch that obese Sperglord's video, but I've been meaning to roll back one of my comments about Anita Sarkeesian for a while now. I found out when Patreon banned "Sargon of Akkad" and DOCTOR Jordan Peterson rage-quit soon after that "Sargon of Akkad" and his cronies had actually harassed Sarkeesian in real life, and obviously that crosses a line. I'm probably the only one who even remembers me saying it's ridiculous to act as though internet death threats are a real problem (you also don't get to claim you've been doxxed if you put your face and your real name on Youtube), but I wasn't aware that things had actually happened outside of people posting mean Youtube comments.

I also still think her analysis was FemCrit 101 and had zero interesting insight, a lot of it was sloppy, and she intentionally blew the threats against her out of proportion so that people would donate more money to her. But these mouthbreathers actually banding together to bully someone at a convention kinda gives her a case to make.

This whole gamergate thing gets weirder the more you look at it from a distance. It's not like racist/right-wing/woman-hating trolling was new, or that it was difficult to tell who was being serious and who was trolling - we had plenty of that on the original Relapse board. And I always thought it had the potential to become more serious because the real ideologues were out there and always looking for new subcultures to recruit from. But that it would be "gamers" of all people is... yeah.

I don't know why I'm rambling about this. I'll shut up now.
