I don't know about Spacehamser, but the word Baldur, to me, is a reference to a Dungeons and Dragons video game / city called Baldur's Gate. Associating Varg's son with a DnD game and a town with a good sandwich place is hitting another level of LOL

It's also the name of a Norse god, which was the first thing I thought of. Turns out, though, that it is a name that actually does exist in northern Europe, though I've never heard of anyone called Baldur and I'd be very surprised if it was at all common except in Iceland where everyone has names like they fell out of some Viking tale from 1500 years ago.
EDIT: Yep, quick check with an Icelandic student of mine confirms it's a very common name in Iceland and pretty much nowhere else. Which means it's still pretty goofy for Varg to have named his kid Baldur, but not as goofy as I thought.
