Okay, I'll give you this one.

Keep in mind that Maher's an anti-vaxxer, though, so I'm not sure whether you're really not on the same team.

I'd be very surprised if he gets through this unscathed since half of his fanbase is nerdy college students. What a fucking idiot

smugly doubling down on an ill-informed opinion just to make an asinine political burn? not like Trump at all.

it would be funny if this dude's career was finally sunk not by giving a bullhorn to the likes of Milo and Coulter but because he used the death of the guy who created Stripperella as an opportunity to make fun of nerds for being geeks.

"I've never read a comic book but DUH of course they suck"

his "recommended books" list has just 5 entries, and one of them is a Moby Dick, which he says he hasn't read:

also he's had Max Brooks on the panel a bunch, who has written a bunch of comics (and comic-adjacent stuff like World War Z), so yeah.

Didn’t Mario Puzo say that comics were too hard to write for?

If you google the phrase "emotionally subnormal" (my favorite ever) you'll find Alan Moore saying the exact same things

it's a little different with Alan Moore though, because he's not speaking from a place of complete ignorance, nor was he really disparaging an entire medium, just the mainstream superhero genre (and really just its modern incarnation) within that medium. Maher on the other hand is an overreaching smarm factory too devoted to his on-brand bitchy hot take to explore or elaborate any further on much of anything, let alone comics.

others sharper than I have pointed out that Maher is brushing up against a worthwhile discussion about the correlation between certain forms of entertainment and stunted maturity in the wider culture. he's just too lazy to further articulate his perspective.
