Since I slept 4 hours and am hung over as fuck, it seemed like the perfect time to catch up on the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.

He got through the opening monologue and half the interview with Gloria Steinem without saying anything painfully stupid (besides of course his general douchyness and unlikability), but then he really started trying to goad her hard into saying that ISLAM IS THE WORST without success

Now the panel segment of the show is when shit got really bad. He had assembled quite a crackerjack team, a real meeting of the minds this one: Some vapid MSNBC anchor, a Ben Carson campaign advisor and Bill Maher's favorite author (no shit) P.J. O'Rourke.

The favorite author thing immediately raised a red flag, and let me tell you this guy turned out to be THE WORST

Imagine if Bill Maher grew a creepy puberty stache, wore ill fitting unironed suits he probably slept in (to give credit where it's due - Bill's wardrobe people get him suits that fit) and spent the best parts of his life as an alcoholic instead of a pothead and you get a sense of this guy's general demeanor. Mr. O'Rourke is libertarian (of course) and he laughs at every one of his own shitty jokes which mostly consists of dismissing every Bernie Sanders supporters as potheads by making the internationally recognized hand gesture for smokin' a doobie, and still Bill Maher thinks he is just THE BEST cause Bill Maher is nothing if not stupid

Most of the time the audience and the other panelists never laugh at P.J.'s terrible jokes and it makes it really uncomfortable to watch, and since every one on the panel is idiot there is absolutely nothing intelligent or insightful is said I must admit I drifted off and couldn't pay any more attention.

When Erin Brokovich was introduced my prejudices were firing on all cylinders, but I was actually impressed by the sheer amount of hard facts and statistics she had memorized, so she actually brought some much needed substance to the show

O'Rourke has tried to pass himself off as the "funny, cool, rock 'n roll conservative" for years now, and he's so out of touch, it's not even funny. Apparently he was once a decent writer for Rolling Stone back in the day, but his public persona is just such a hollow shell these days, that I can't believe Maher still supports this asshole.

They keep showing Maher's interview with Steinem on the news, where she insinuates that women are only voting for Bernie because "the boys are with Bernie." Give me a fucking break.

She did come across as pretty out of touch, but her brand of feminism has been irrelevant for three decades. Typical old person thinking kids these days are no good. She's been a Clinton shill for a long time, and a lot of second wavers are obsessed with the symbolic significance of a female president. Her backpedaling on the interview later on seemed completely disingenuous. It was also weird how she insinuated that men respect transsexuals more than biological women, but both Steinem and Maher have a history of talking shit about trannies so it's not surprising they bonded over Caitlin Jenner's penis.

Yes, this is my main problem with Maher's jokes about it, along with them not being funny at all. You can tell he's still got that old conservative trapped inside of his liberal image, and it comes out in the ugliest ways, whether it's his stance on Islam or trans people.

I'm really sick of Michael Moore (and a lot of other people on the American left) portraying Norway as some sort of social democratic utopia and basically just being a mouthpiece for Norwegian state department propaganda. The cornerstones of our economy is oil (read for example about Statoil and tar sand projects for some of the heinous shit our State Oil Corporation does) and weapons technology (selling to the US, Saudi Arabia, Israel).

Norway may have some nice prisons, but we are the most zealous war on drugs nation in Europe, with the highest # of heroin addicts and overdoses, and Norway has ongoing trials in international human rights courts for excessive use of solitary confinement. Norway regularly ranks worse all other Scandinavian countries on the Corruption Index, there is rampant nepotism, police misconduct. They never show international journalists the shitty solitary holding cells some prisoners are held in for weeks while awaiting trial.

Housing deregulation (Norway has Europe's most deregulated housing marked - a gift to all real estate sharks) is responsible for growing social inequality, and while we may have free college, if you are enrolled in any school you are not eligible for any other benefits (housing subsidies, welfare, medical benefits) so people take massive loans to cover housing and food if they want an education. Public companies have been gutted and sold off to private interests for decades - Norway has actually sold the postal service to a corporation. Most public transportation companies have been sold and an increasing amount of health care services are outsourced to private corporations. Social dumping and illegal labor is widespread.

What I'm saying is that Norway is weasely little vassal state to the American military industrial complex.
