I definitely don't think it will succeed in terms of it being a trve Ghostbusters movie (not that the second one really did, but who's mad about that?) ... but I do think it could generate laughs in a quasi-sci-fi context.

have there been any reboot/remake/sequel things that die-hards hated but n00bs totally loved? this might do that.

The reason why it's not likely to be any good has nothing to do with female cast or reboots, but due to the involvement of Sony. When it comes to any given movie produced by Sony, I'm more likely to be entertained by the marketing slides than the movie itself, so let's hope there is another leak.

When I first heard of this, my initial reaction was, "cool another movie I'll never see." Now that the Reddit MRA bronies are all riled up, I want to see it opening night just to spite those weird pathetic fucks.

A coworker gave me a unprompted like 10 minute description of the new point break. Like he was really enthusiastic about it. I was like you know that's a remake from the 90s, you should watch the old one, it's got swayze. And he said he wasn't interested because the action/effects in the 90s version wouldn't be as cool.
