So I upgraded to the PS4 version recently and have been playing bass on it and doing pretty well over all; I think I'm more natural playing on bass than guitar.

That being said, I switched back to guitar a couple of days ago and holy shit, the problems I complained about with non-registering notes and certain chords always being ignored (thirds in particular, and then whatever power chords with the fret directly above the root note being included; aw fuck I'm explaining this terribly. For example when your first finger is on the fifth fret of the first two strings, and your third is on the 7th fret of the third and fourth strings) were apparently PS3 exclusives ?! Man I'm killing it now ! I got first place on Master mode on a handful of songs (Breaking the Law, Ain't No Sunshine, Another One Bites the Dust) and I haven't even tried most of the songs yet. I find I get so many more perfect notes and chords instead of goods or late/earlys on PS4. Can't wait to crush some Slayer songs once I decide I'm done playing in E standard for a while !

I've been playing the PS3 version so I can finally get the platinum (just need to do the hour-long session mode trophy) and definitely noticed detection issues with those super power chords (as i call them) that you mentioned, riley. The other chord type that won't register for me is the kind that's like...

D----6
A----7
E----4

... So some sort of modified power chord? Trying to think of songs that have those, but only Say It Ain't So is coming to mind. I still sometimes have issues with those in the PS4 version.

How do you guys have Rocksmith's audio set up? I've always just gone with console>HDMI>TV and never had any problems with lag, but I finally bought a real ass AV receiver and speakers, and now something feels off. The set up is now console>HDMI>receiver>HDMI>TV. I turned off all my receiver's processing, so I have next to no audio lag, but the video seems to be off, like i need to play faster than normal to keep up with what I see on the screen.

Probably explaining this crappily, but I've always had super simple set ups and am still getting used to having a real receiver.

Using good speakers is a massive improvement though. First song I tried with them was Moonage Daydream and I almost fucking wept at the beauty ;_;

I do PS4-HDMI-receiver-HDMI-teevee. It doesn't quite match visually, but generally if I play to the beat it works. I think I get like a tiny millisecond of lag between playing my guitar and hearing it out the speakers, but it's so tiny I'm never sure if I'm actually hearing it.

When I had it PS4->teevee->receiver I had this lag that was just intolerable. Almost a half second after playing before I would hear it.

I'm about to move again which means dewiring and rewiring all this shit, so I might finally set it up how they suggest, with an optical cable to the receiver and HDMI to the teevee.

I already have the PS3 platinum, now I just need the 50 instruments and brutal 500 missions trophies for the PS4.

Newer TVs have both an audio lag option and game mode that should help.

I just tried the PS4>optical>receiver + PS4>HDMI>TV method and it seems like it's just about perfect now. This also lets me turn up my TV's audio and kinda mix it with the receiver audio, so it creates a very slight reverb effect that actually sounds more like live music, and it kinda compensates for any audio/video lag. definitely recommend trying it.

RE: that 500 mission trophy. I gave up on the PS3 version like two years ago because it seemed like I'd completed way more than 500 missions and the trophy never popped. then they put out that remastered update that shows you your trophy count, so I logged into the PS3 version... 497 missions completed  Rocksmith PS3 will beat Demon's Souls for the longest time for me to platinum, at about 3.5 years.

oh yeah, game mode is a necessity for sure. i didn't realize TVs had an audio lag option though (at least mine doesn't). if the audio is coming from a non-TV source, you can't really force the TV to adjust audio lag right? wouldn't you just adjust the video lag instead, or something? i'm dumb with this stuff.

I had my ps3 on a optical out to my receiver which worked fine.

Since I got PS4 and a sound bar though, I have just been playing through PS4 wireless headphones, I suspect a very slight delay through it, but I play to the backing track rather than listen to me too much so it's ok.

3.5 mil on rhythm guitar for South of Heaven was good enough for first place in master mode

I've got a handful of 1st places on master -- feeling like maybe I don't suck at guitar as much as I've always thought ? Willing to consider other explanations that still include me sucking at guitar exactly as much as I've always thought too though

That much practice gotta count for something!! Well done!!! 3.5 must have been a faultless run - awesome!

It is practically impossible to have a perfect run I think - I have learned some bad habits in some riffs of songs to emphasise phrases to get through them

hahaha... do you remember which other songs where you've ranked 1? only then can we judge exactly how much you suck. I definitely cheesed the string skipping verse riff of War Ensemble that we've talked about and got a super high ranking, maybe right ahead of DD on PS4 I believe. some songs lend themselves better to that sort of thing though.

haven't gotten a chance to play this week but I'm pumped they added another Thin Lizzy song. Cowboy Song has some tasty leads, and bass is probably a good time too

I usually stuff up in the bridgey riff in WE. I was number 1 on WE, Angel of Death, Wires and Blood and Thunder but you guys shoulda taken over me by now. Burned my left hand finger tips on my index and middle finger a couple of months ago & they're not standing up to much guitaring at the moment so it'll be good to have something to shoot for when they heal!

this week in Rocksmith shame: Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4 on lead. holy shit. I've never bothered to look into Chicago because the radio stuff I heard was pretty lame, but this fucking lead guitarist shreds. I managed to hit like 82% the first time through, but that was a sloppy, ugly 82%.

Someone beat my rhythm angel of death, so I had to come try again & cracked 3 mil. Which I think is my best on any song so far. Checking your South of Heaven Riley - bravo!!!
