I met him for a few minutes. Nice enough guy. Got my copy of Glue Porch Treatments signed. Kevin Rutmanis was the friendliest one among them. David Scott Stone they had touring with them at the time on second guitar got me backstage. This was the first time I saw them and they were pretty crushing. Heavier then when I saw them in a small club or when I saw Fantamos. (This was a medium sized venue) they opened with Eye Flys and the level of noise emanating from the stage was ridiculous. The second guitar player had an amped up piece of sheet metal or something. AMAZON was massive live.

I saw Nirvana a couple of times right as the broke on Nevermind in 92.

Cobain must not have been able to get smack because as the tour progressed they got worse with each show.

I didn't care for In Utero.

The Melvins had three objectively amazing records in that period when they were on Atlantic, there have been flashes of brilliance here and there since - I really enjoyed the Big Business collar and equally I really liked that they stopped doing it before it got too played out.

Three seperate live show experiences around 20 years apart with the Melvins stand out for me.

A gig at the Metro in Sydney where King B broke a string and they kinda made a song up from him changing it and getting in back in tune - it was pretty awesome.

Then there was a show at a twin stage festival where they followed Rob Zombie who played over time and was just horrendous - the Melvins were on stage waiting to start and then expertly and mercilessly mocked the shit out of Rob Zombie merely doing a series of Ric Flairish WOOOOs at the begining of the set and throughout. John 5 had hokily broken a guitar on stage and Big business dude slow mo didn't break his bass but kinda pretended too - on top of that the twin drum lineup was utterly superb.

Then there was the playing of Houdini with Trevor Dunn in a smallish bar in total which was just phenomenal.

The one other thing I like about KB - is I saw Fantomas on their Directors Cut tour and while other people set gear up for Lombardo etc - Buzzo walked out, set all his own gear up - And then after the show when the rest of the band walked off to let the techs do the work, Buzzo just unceremoniously stayed on stage and packed his own gear up and chatted to people who bothered to engage him, in a 2000 head type of venue. I liked that he did that.

I have read and seen him be a bit of a cranky cunt, but it's consistent - I think they've contributed more to music even though Nirvanas three albums were pretty great - so is Buzzo.
