dark/sad folky country recommendations

I am looking to increase my knowledge of raw and quality folky country (or artists that are influenced by it), especially if by a good female vocalist. Looking along the lines of: Gillian Welch, Townes Van Zandt, Dorthea Cottrell, Mazzy Star, Marrissa Nadler.
