Undertow is cool although I never really listen to it and don’t think I’ve ever heard the whole album. From what I’ve heard of Opiate I’ve enjoyed. Other than that I don’t have an opinion of them one way or another.

tool was one of my favorite bands since the mid 90s...the songs have always been great

you'll get a mutterer saying they arent "prog" etc etc

listen to that...great live too

mpd posting a tool song made me listen to undertow the other night and its still really great imo. i saw them in like 96-97 i think after aenima came out with a girl i was sweet on at the time and its one of the best shows i ever seen!

they're great at taking the one or two riffs they know and arranging them in a slightly different order.same fucking song for nearly 30 years.

sorry Chad, much love for you brother, but I just can't stand this band.the drummer kills, but the rest of them suck.

I've had an irrational hatred for this band based solely on their fans for quite some time now.

Also they're kind of try-hards.

Some songs are ok.

And that's my very important opinion about Tool.

I have both Undertow and Ænima on my shuffle and enjoy when a song comes on. More than one song is too much though.

Feel the same way about Soundgarden.

I am appreciating this tool redemption thread

whenever some naive person (let's be real - girlfriend) tries to include tool in their characterization of "nu metal" I have to take a moment to calmly explain why tool isn't quite exactly all that bad

I love a few of their songs but this new stuff does nothing for me.

I will start a SOAD redemption thread next week - wish me luck.

SOAD wrote like three and a half good songs per album which is actually a pretty good ratio all told

Tool wrote the same song but it's also good so here we are

Really like this song from 2010... Can't say that about any other 90s band.

I have narrowed down my taste in music down to one specific thing and everone has their own opinion but this is mine. A good guitar player with great tone that writes memorable songs. Adam Jones has always done that for me. New song is great and all their albums are great. Love this band.

I would dig this, pls deliver.

I think nu-metal in general is an interesting thing to discuss, it kinda makes people go crazy and get all weird and defensive.

Like, nobody actually gives a shit if you talk about liking z-grade hair metal or grindcore, but everyone has a fucking proper persuasive essay prepared for any situation where they have to explain that they still own a copy of Korn's first album, or that they grew up listening to Disturbed.

Nu-metal hot take:

Korn's first 2 albums rule.

SOAD got ripper on that double album.

Tool is like a nap in slow motion.
