poorly mastered CDs

I'm no alan parsons, but does anyone else tweak your CD's with your own mastering fixes? I don't do much when I do, but get the volume up to snuff. Some you just see right off from the waveform how far off it is.
List albums you noticed were mastered low or shitty...
Nuclear Assault - Survive
Dead Kennedy's (original release) - Bedtime for Democracy
original dead kennedy's CD's were horribly mastered...
more ?? must be tons.

I remember Mortville Andy saying a record plant fucked up a Deche-Charge 7” and it had to be redone.

The original Rabies by Skinny Puppy. Can't just turn the volume up, you need the remaster. One of their better albums, too.

At least albums with "low" sound aren't too compressed and the wav isn't crushed...

I always felt that the mastering job on Paul's Boutique kind of sucked, given it was a big budget major label release with an enormous amount of time and energy put into the production.
Maybe it was just made to be played on vinyl.

I adore it but a tremendous amount of that shit runs counter to modern taste. Up until that point the most successful stuff in the genre was always "several grown men screaming at the top of their lungs in a concrete reveb box" with compression set to Rick Rubin. Some stuff on Paul's Boutique is calmer than most Run DMC
If any young kid learning today cooked up "rock box" they'd get kicked out of the producers guild hall....

I guess it makes more sense imagining him being lazy and using the same settings as Reign In Blood
