Recommend Good Dub Albums
I know of the major "stars" of the genre. I have some Scientist stuff, King Tubby, blah blah...

'Stealth' by Scorn was the last good dub album I heard, but that would probably fit more into ambient or experimental dub if you're fussy about genres.

How about dub that sounds dark and menacing? I'd be into that.

The album Laswell did with Jah Wobble is really good.

It's not as menacing as you would probably hope for, but Keith Hudson had that reputation down. Check out Pick-a-Dub.Honky Kong 64 wrote:How about dub that sounds dark and menacing? I'd be into that.
It probably counts as a "big player" in the original post, but for anyone who doesn't know it yet, Big Youth is crucial, especially the 1972-76 2xCD set that Trojan put out, Ride Like Lightning. Yabby You is also good for his first two albums, Conquering Lion and Deliver Me From My Enemies.

Did you ever listen to Text? It was 4/5 of Refused. They put out one record abunch of years ago. It's not all dub -- it's all over the place, and most of it's great -- but the three or four dub tracks on it are fucking awesome.

Re: Recommend Good Dub Albums
I'm writing this stuff down and will sample all...
I'm mostly into older recordings, dub from the very beginning right out of Jamaica. I'm fairly new to the genre, though, so...whatever. But I'm guessing as with most genres there are the "established classics" and there are all kinds of underground awesome records. I'm totally open to new stuff too, as long as it's totally spaced out/heavy stuff...
I'm still astonished by what a few producers could accomplish with crap mixers and massive reverb.

Dub Syndicate, Murder Tone
don't know about all their albums, but i love this collection. Adrian Sherwood started the band with Style Scott, who was in Roots Radics.

This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about:
http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sq ... fwxq8rldde
I've never actually seen this on CD anywhere. I mean...physically, one can order it of course.
This record is famous, etc. but it's one of the few "famous" records that I actually agree with, that it still means something to me...

I've never even heard of this genre. What's the difference between this and reggae?
