Post adolescent musical obsessions
songs or artists that you thought where the bees knees before you had a more defined musical aesthetic. Jr High, early high school or even before.
I loved this band so much, I wrote to them and the lead dude (John Butcher) wrote back to me. I was so excited:
I watched ALOT of early Mtv apparently

I'd have to say Smashing Pumpkins. Or anything Hiero related...

Re: Post adolescent musical obsessions
Twisted Sister started life long obsession with music for me and were the whole reason I wanted to play an instrument and start a band. I still think they're great.
Re: Post adolescent musical obsessions
I owned a few Supertramp records in grade-school.
Re: Post adolescent musical obsessions
The Police, all the '80s pop/new wave stuff, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Red Hot Chili Peppers, all kinds of embarrassing shit...
I mean, outside of metal.

When I was 12 I thought AC/DC and Guns N' Roses were the best things ever. I also lked the first RATM when it came out. Thank you MTV Buzz Clips for that shit.

I thin it was classical 'war' music like ride of the valkyries and the theme from dambusters when I was 5 oy 6, also 'halfway up the stairs' was a favourite as a nipper, into my teens it was belinda carlisle* and transvision vamp* up until I heard metallica aged 13.
* neither was because of the music.

Nirvana, of course, until I was about 12.
Then it was nothing but pan-fucking-tera and sepultura.

Nirvana was the only band for me. All else was peripheral. Also loved Pearl Jam, Bush, Hole, etc.

First was Green Day. Then came Bush. Then Metallica.

Black Sabbath
The Misfits
I tried getting into Van Halen when I was 15, but the songs never did it for me the way those 3 bands could. I was (and still am to an extent) a massive guitar nerd though, and made cassettes of Eddies Solos without the verses/choruses. I also copied and bought loads of bootlegs just to hear how Eddie had evolved, relistening to different versions of Eruption recorded live between 1974 and 1977, learning the licks. It helped my playing immensley.

Any kid growing up in that era that doesn't admit to learning eruption (and hell, stairway to heaven) is totally lying.

Re: Post adolescent musical obsessions
Dire Straits and Huey Lewis and the News were my first "favorite" bands, but that pre-dated my adolescence by a number of years.
Incalculably stupid, i trust you'll agree.
