Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
GOW2 is the game that got me back into videogames a couple of years ago, after I'd spent a few years without. My roommate had it and roped me into playing splitscreen with him to get some co-op achievements. Shit was super fun when I was playing with a buddy who was in the same room. It's less fun when sat alone playing either solo or with random internet kids, but it passes the time... and I'm obsessed with the idea that I must grind out as many achievements as possible from it before I move on, 'cause I tend to only play one game at a time and rarely go back to games I've already played and then stopped playing.
If they come out with a GOW4 like I suspect they will (yes, the Delta Team's trilogy is done, but they'll probably start a new trilogy with a new squad or someshit), I'll probably pass on it. Main reason I picked this one up was with hopes of playing online co-op with a few specific friends, but they all either traded it in while I was still playing the last New Vegas DLC, or simply don't play it too often.

Quick Diablo III impressions:
It's definitely a Diablo game. It's basically Diablo II with an upgrade in graphics and whatnot...not that that's a bad thing at all. A buddy I was on Google Hangout with was playing it (not together because that wasn't working) with the Witch Doctor class.
The Witch Doctor WILL be my first character...simply because you can summon poison toads to attack people.
YOU THROW TOADS AT ENEMIES.
The only major shit thing about it is that you can only get to level 10 on this beta. I'm assuming its so that you'll use all of the classes to keep playing the game.
I'm only at level 7, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

All this recent talk about installing games to the HDD for better textures are wierding me out. RAGE and BF3 are the only two games that improve actual graphics, right? I'm aware that Skyrim has the opposite due to a bug/glitch.

Jesus, but Blood 2 can be hella buggy. Guys clip into the floor below but their guns rise high enough to attack. God forbid you're able to kill one of them, though, or the game crashes to the desktop. It's definitely better than Shogo is almost every way, except I had a better time with Shogo. I think Shogo's small sized levels help soften the monotony. And Blood 2's switch finding can be real frickin' obtuse. Major props to some of the villains though. Besides gun mean, and things that just charge you, it has some interesting creatures that remind me of Zelda. Especially, the Wizzrobes.

No, it ran great on Windows 98, but has issues on XP which I still use. Pretty sure it was fine on Windows ME, when I had that.Mari_Mar wrote:I loved Blood 2 when I played it... That was yeeeeeeears ago! Was WinXP even out when that game came out?

PETA slams Mario over use of a fur suit
By Ben Silverman
Tanooki Mario (Nintendo)
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals might be barking up the wrong mushroom.
On Monday, the controversial organization issued a press release attacking iconic Nintendo mascot Mario for wearing a 'Tanooki' suit in his latest adventure, the Nintendo 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land, which hit shelves on Sunday.
"Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but by wearing the skin of an animal, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur," PETA says.
The raccoon-like suit, which grants Mario the ability to glide across the screen, has been a part of the franchise since first appearing as a power-up in 1988's Super Mario Bros. 3. In the new game, Mario acquires the suit not by doing something lousy to a Tanooki, but by snagging a Super Leaf.
Still, PETA insists this encourages animal abuse.
"Tanukis are real-life raccoon dogs who are beaten and, as PETA's undercover exposés show, often skinned alive for their fur," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "This winter, everyone can give raccoon dogs and other fabulous animals a 1-UP by keeping our wardrobes fur-free."
To help prove their point, PETA has even commissioned a crude parody video game called "Super Tanooki Skin 2D" in which players try to re-capture their skin from a flying Mario (Warning: Kind of disturbing, and totally not fun.)
It's just the latest in a long line of PETA game complaints. In 2008 they went after Cooking Mama for not being a vegetarian, while just last year they parodied challenging downloadable platform hit Super Meat Boy for starring a piece of raw meat.
Nintendo has yet to comment, though we're pretty sure it will sound like a hand slapping a forehead.

I somehow made it through the PETA doco on its founder/attention whore Ingrid Newkirk.
I'm currently chuckling to myself as to how I imagine she would pronounce the "tanooki" after hearing her say words like "baloon" or "moon" - She's the only person I've ever heard that pronounces both o's in a word.
Phonetically - kinda like "moo-ewn" or "baloo-ewn"
That tanoo-ewki that Mario is wearing is just terrible.
I can't wait til Skyrim introduces a PETA person picketing the tannery station at a blacksmiths.

I guess that's a bottle of sake according to tradition - which is pretty OK as well
even the taxidermized ones have huge balls!
Tanuki may be shown with their testicles flung over their backs like travellers' packs, or using them as drums.

Saw it in that Studio Ghibli raccoon movie, where they bounce around beat the shit out of people with their balls. Wasn't sure at the time if it was a cultural reference or just them being weird.
