yea I'm kind of confused about the great year for games thing

Max Payne 3
Sleeping Dogs

I can't come up with anything at all after that

Sleeping Dogs is the best game since Dark Souls for me

People were pretty up in arms about Dragon's Dogma but it didn't do a whole lot for me. I'll give it another try next time there's a gaming drought but the combat felt really slow and not designed particularly well, and I just have a really tough time immersing myself in badly told in a time of magic RPG stories at this point in my life.

Max Payne 3 was good, but not as good as Sleeping Dogs. Not even close to as good.

You can wait for a price drop, it's not like the game's going to go bad or something, but I have no regrets whatsoever over making this a full price purchase. I've been sucked into this game entirely, staying up way too late doing dumb shit like fight tournaments and going on dates. Everything you do in the game is fun. 9/10.
Exactly, it's so versatile, time goes by too fast. When I've got tired obliterating drug dealing mobs, I go for a race or two, up my rep with some karaoke, do some favors and move on with the main story. Repeat.

the fight tournaments and races were my favorite thing to do in the game

the dating was fun to fuck some hoes but it's clear exactly how much time was spent on it
the karaoke was also fun but the same thing can be said

I wasn't the biggest fan of Arkham City. I thought Max Payne and Skyrim, while generally good, had serious flaws. Max Payne felt like it should have been about 2/3 as long as it was and by the end I was glad I was done. Skyrim's lagging and chopping made it frequently unplayable which, that's sort of a bad trait in a game.

There's a couple little annoying things about Sleeping Dogs that bug me, things like camera problems when switching from fwd to reverse while driving, but they're so minor as to be irrelevant.

I don't know what else to say here man. Story absolutely rules, combat rules, racing rules, missions rule and are the perfect length, I can't put it down, I'm thinking about it all day.

Judging by geoffs usual choice of games I would say if you have any interest wait until this time next year to get it for peanuts

There are lots of awesome games coming out very soon and there is no need to buy it immediately but I still consider it a must play because it's easily one of the best of this gen

If you look at the majority of games I played this year, games from 2011 we be the dominant percentage here. Skyrim alone is probably in the 80 percentile. I'm thinking of 2012 games I've played:

Darkness 2 - was fine.
Max Payne 3 - was good but I like the first two much better.
Spec Ops: The Line - Loved elements of it, but thats really sad if that's the best 2012 can do.

There's others I haven't played, maybe won't make till 2013 but if Sleeping Dogs is the GOTY then.... wait, better than Mass Effect 3?!!! Okay, the ending is grizzled but the rest of the game... come on!

I had to put it on baby difficulty but I beat Catherine. Props for being the most accurate breakup simulator ever made?
if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Borderlands 2 and xcom will take a big greasy shit on everything else that came out this year. Torchlight 2 probably won't be half bad either

Also doesn't gta 5 come out this year?

I'm thinking Dishonored might be the dark horse in the GOTY hunt.

I really dug that play through they had. When does it come out?
Not sure off hand. Borderlands & Resident Evil are the two next big releases. Probably Oct just to stay away from COD & Halo 4.

The Bill, Sleeping Dogs is so much goddamn better than Mass Effect 3 it ain't even funny. An open world game managed to tell a more coherent, and sometimes poignant, story better than Bioware. Fighting in a tournament on the docks of Hong Kong in a Game of Death outfit = probable GOTY. Well, Dark Souls PC is my GOTY. Fuck off Sen's Fortress.

Dishonored and Hitman: Absolution are all I'm looking forward to. My backlog is getting out of control.

Ugh! Do I really need yet another game? Of course not! Does my OCD need to buy every little video game that looks somewhat enjoyable tell me to get this now? You bet your ass! Tell me is there forced racing, timed, or escort missions? If so, are they comparable to GTA? If so, its a deal breaker.

Dishonored and Borderlands 2 are the two coming out soon I was referring to.

I'd bet on one of those two being GOTY but who knows Sleeping Dogs could be the underdog that wins over everything.

Hitman
RE even though I think it looks like shit
Xcom - videos have sold me 100x over, and I'm most excited for besides BL
Far Cry 3
Dark Souls DLC

so that's quite a bit of shit I'm interested in I think it's going to end up being a better season than last year

There are a few but not many timed/escort missions but they're much more interesting than GTA or Saint's Row. There are quite a few (optional) racing missions but you actually get rewards from them that enhance your character. Mostly you're punching dudes in the face and sticking their heads in furnaces.
The Schwartz wrote:Far Cry 3
Forgot about that one, definitely going to get that. It seems like they've taken all the criticisms of FC2 and either improved them (taking over guardposts actually has benefits now) or gotten rid of them (malaria).

my favorite were the meathooks

also just in case you haven't, drive as fast as you can while pressing X and swerve the car door into oncoming traffic when a dude on a motorcycle is passing by

satisfaction guaranteed

I think I cleared out that entire area with furnace kills. I was also fond of impalement via swordfish or whatever it was.

I really hope a significant DLC add-on comes out soon.
