I have a friend I've maybe posted about here who was raised in a hasidic neighborhood...he's pre-med now, but he had to teach himself math at 19 because they pretty much only studied torah at his school. he didn't know fractions. he also told me that there was a TON of sexual abuse that went on there by the rabbis, but that shit never made news because the community 'policed itself.' which meant that nothing got done. he moved out, cut his hair, became a vocal atheist, and now his family and friends mostly won't speak to him.
