Here's a great comment thread making my head blow up. Someone had the gall to say that as a skinny woman, she gets told to "eat a sandwich" by bigger girls and says that doesn't feel good, either. And then it erupts into an amazing debate about how talking about "Thin Shaming" is just as dumb as asking "Yeah, well when is WHITE HISTORY MONTH!" along with a ton of fatties spouting their version of "science" when it comes to metabolism.

Ok, I think we can probably agree that while it's easier to be a thin middle-class white lady than a fat middle-class white lady, it's probably easier to be a fat middle-class white lady than a thin black immigrant woman.

One thing, before we get going; it's really time to get rid of the thoughtless bodysnarking caveat "unless you're a doctor." It feeds into the pernicious, dangerous delusion that a medical degree somehow immunizes one against fat prejudice, and study after study has shown that doctors shame, misdiagnose, provide incomplete or actively harmful medical advice, and are generally just as prone to act shitty to fat people for no good reason as anyone else

You don't have to go to the furthest reaches of the few stores that have plus-sized sections only to be met with a huge mess and dowdy clothes. You have the privilege of not being stared at just for being fat (now black, maybe. I don't know about that.) You don't have people giving you diet tips when you are already starving yourself. You have the privilege of people not making assumptions that you are lazy and out of control. You have the privilege of not being confronted with constant articles about being fat and the rude commenters that come along with that.

it is really really fucked up that these assholes gum up the body acceptance shit (which I am generally in favor of, I think) with their total abandonment of the idea of responsibility. you GOT FAT, you did that, fat didn't happen to you. and if you're smarter than all the doctors in the world, then you should REALLY understand that FAT isn't something inborn.

I can't help but be constantly amazed by the constant victim-hood of those in the Fat Acceptance Movement. I also only tend to see white women in the Fat Acceptance stuff. Is it because they feel left out when their black feminist friends get to tell them that they may be a woman but they STILL have it better than a black woman and now they want to up the ante by using the fat person repression thing?
