Re: The Dark Souls Thread
i was level 120 in NG++ and the four kings were hard as fuck, much more so than any other boss in NG++. i had to summon in witch beatrice (i think that's who it was). i don't know what your build is, but it seems like tanks with really high DPS do the best against four kings. i was a dex/stick-and-move build so it was mostly a matter of me not being able to kill them fast enough before getting swarmed. i'm guessing you've already tried using iron flesh, but if not, it's worth testing out

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
Vit 39, Int 39, End 39 with a Magic +10 bastard sword and maxed-out pyromancy flame. I've tried Iron Flesh as that was what I did the first time, but it's not much help. I'm really at a bit of a loss here. Anyway, I'll do the painted world now and when I've tried cutting off Priscilla's tail 200 times I'll probably have the motivation to go back to the four kings.

I don't remember for sure what level I was but I don't think it was much over 100. You probably know strategies but I just tank-catted into mordor with Havel armour and immediately went into all attack no defense mode, except any time I took a bad hit I'd swig estus right away.

Sounds basically like what I did the first time. I guess I'll just go back and try again.

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
been playing around with this on my friends PC so i would get my appetite back up to play on xbox. i had stopped in the archives. i realized that my little trick where i'd run by everyone to get back to the seath fight was idiotic because seath is unkillable.
so now i've discovered the crystal cave.
invisible paths? is that it now?

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
starting a new strength-based character tonight, my first in either souls game, and trying to get to where i can access the DLC when it comes out.... i think it's darkroot garden but i'm not sure.
are any of you going to start the DLC with an OP character though? i don't know how hard the new stuff is in relation to the rest of the game, but i assume 100+ SL would make it a lot easier. i want it to be frustrating but not ridiculous, so i'm thinking like 40-50 SL

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
schwartz if you'll direct your attention up about three posts you'll see me making reference to the DLC. i talked about it in the game thread also
it's definitely worth $15, and if you're planning to keep playing afterwards the new sorceries are fucking ridiculously good and the new pyromancy isn't bad. there's also some great gear that immediately became 3/4s of my equipment. i'm not planning on playing the normal game much since i already have the platinum, but i still thought there were enough new areas to explore to make it worthwhile. also one of the bonfires is a ridiculous nonstop pvp hot spot
also, i'm trying to avoid spoilers, but i must say this: do NOT kill sif before accessing the DLC.
there are three required bosses, one optional (the dragon i mentioned). i'm only at level 65 or so and still haven't beaten the dragon, and i had to use a summon to help me beat the final boss. all three of the required bosses are among the best boss fights in the game though. seriously intense with no way to cheese them for the most part

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
Finally took a crack at the DLC yesterday (I was in the Painted World when I bought it, so I had to get out of there first.)
The initial bossfight was really fun, and what's even funnier is how the game lures you into this false sense of superiority where it takes about three tries to kill that thing, so you think, oh, this is gonna be a cakewalk, and then one of those new giant knights fucking rips you a new one. And then he does it again. And again.
Definitely some, um, framerate issues here, though.

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
hahaha, i had the exact same experience. beat the first boss in two or three tries, got cocky, and then was completely decimated about a half dozen times trying to make it through the next area
oh yeah... after you beat any other boss in the DLC, warp back to the first DLC bonfire and go to the boss area
