Re: True Detective (HBO)
I thought the attack on the Ledoux compound was going to involve the beginning part of the first episode, which showed two bodies shuffling through a field, one body holding up the other body like one of them was shot, and then the field started on fire. That didn't happen, so I'm assuming its going to happen at the last episode with Marty and Rust enacting the same "shootout" that they did with Ledoux. It goes with "time is flat and circular, and the events you've done before will do again" philosophy.

It's likely not what you expect. It's all over the place, a couple of horror stories, a couple of love stories, war stories. The Repairer of Reputations and The Yellow Sign are the two horror stories, both are good, but I LOVE the Yellow Sign. It's fucking grim as fuck.ghost boner wrote:totally reading the yellow king. started it today but didnt get too far. will have to get on it tomorrow. is it a good read? also its free on google play books.
For me it's comparable to Shirley Jackson's The Demon Lover, only with less weird stories and more prosaic ones.

Re: True Detective (HBO)
So what happened to ginger?
Hart's daughter has to get involved...remember the 5 dolls standing over the one on its back, when Hart walks in on them?
Or the photo of Dora at her mom's house with the 5 horse guys?
Then of course there's Cohle's beer can dudes.
It seems that Cohle went off grid to investigate the broader case, and he's obviously only talking with the black cops to try to get more info from them...only to find out they don't know shit.
But if not for the mythos, I wouldn't think the black cops were right in their accusations, but I'm starting to think that the case has driven him insane.

That was Dora Lange's body...there was still smoldering grass when they arrived, and one of the cops told them it wasn't scheduled for a burn.ThePhillyExperiment wrote:I thought the attack on the Ledoux compound was going to involve the beginning part of the first episode, which showed two bodies shuffling through a field, one body holding up the other body like one of them was shot, and then the field started on fire. all caught up as of last night. holy FUCK!

i'm starting to think that Rust and Marty didn't have the ten year falling out, and possibly catch on to something far more sinister and supernatural than previously imagined, and have been working on it together in secrecy, because the scope of it is too big to just be police work.

Yeah, I have that suspicion as well. Especially after Hart's absorb comment.Raw Ting wrote:all caught up as of last night. holy FUCK!

I'm thinking something goes down with the one daughter, and Rust gives him a plan of trust me that wont be revealed to the final episode.

yep,
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
it's painfully obvious marty's daughter is going to be a big part in whatever supernatural element that's yet to be seen. she is one of the chosen slut overlords of the yellow king or something. god damn this show is rad.

nitpicky: it's a shame they went a little teeny bit overboard on reggie's tattoos / i love the symbolism framing foreshadowing potential avenues etc but the amount of examples piling up is pretty heavy in volume imho
did everyone notice the brand?

You live in the white trash state and you think those tattoos were overboard? If anything they weren't pen and needle sloppy enough.

no no i just mean the overall picture aesthetic/cosmology its trying to depict could've been better, more ambiguous. if hes sincerely so far gone that hes constantly just spouting 'drivel' the tattoos being so literally connected to stuff he's surrounded by pictorially is i dont know. as part of the character i guess it works but i guess i had something different in mind
i think i just completely hate and am disappointed constantly by tattoos period

I think I know what you're getting at. What did he have mostly Nazi, and satanic stuff? Did he have the spiral? Or black stars? I can't remember. Could be a Nazi devil worshiper is an easy mind for another cult to bend.FVBTVS wrote:no no i just mean the overall picture aesthetic/cosmology its trying to depict could've been better, more ambiguous. if hes sincerely so far gone that hes constantly just spouting 'drivel' the tattoos being so literally connected to stuff he's surrounded by pictorially is i dont know. as part of the character i guess it works but i guess i had something different in mind

His back piece was a pentagram with a demonic face in it (looked like Paul Booth's work, actually). But he did have the brand of the spiral on his shoulder. I actually thought the noose around the neck tattoo was a cool touch.
