Re: ROME [Jerome Reuter] appreciation
Only a few listens in, and while it reminds me of Flowers from Exile in parts, I really feel as if it falls apart toward the end. It's got that DoD era Iron Maiden chorus shit working against it or something. Gonna do a headphone listen later tonight.
FWIW I'm pretty down with Hell Money as an overall project.

Re: ROME [Jerome Reuter] appreciation
I generally agree, but I think I am way more excited about this one. Having 4-5 really solid songs on an album is good enough for me, since only MMM and NCP top that for my tastes. It seems like a return to form, so I'm relieved that he didn't just keep going down that Hell Money rabbit hole. Agreed on the FfE vibe. Still has too much of that tinny production stuff of Hell Money. I sort of wish that weird pop beat stuff on the first track was more indicative of the whole record - that was interesting and could have been more so.Honky Kong 64 wrote:Only a few listens in, and while it reminds me of Flowers from Exile in parts, I really feel as if it falls apart toward the end. This isn't a formal thing, right? You're just saying you dig that album and it holds its own if you don't consider it a "ROME" record? I don't care for it at all beyond a song or two... maybe 3.Honky Kong 64 wrote:FWIW I'm pretty down with Hell Money as an overall project.

Re: ROME [Jerome Reuter] appreciation
FWIW I think he says, "Rhodesia" more times on this record that Lil B says, "Bitch" on White Flame. I surprisingly enjoyed the change of sound on HM, though I'm glad they didn't stay down this path (a.k.a. I, too, am reeking of masturbation).Necrometer wrote:I generally agree, but I think I am way more excited about this one. Let me know what you think!
I haven't been revisiting the new record much, despite enjoying it...

I presume nobody saw these guys in LA last night? I think they're doing a living room show tonight - not sure if it's sold out.
Then a big show in SF Sunday and an acoustic one at my house Tuesday <3

Re: ROME [Jerome Reuter] appreciation
hahaha, thanks for the reminder - I'd seen your post earlier and then spaced
the blackout was at the SF show - it was actually pretty cool! they in the middle of one of the last choruses of One Fire and everything just went black/silent. after a minute it's revealed that it's the whole block, so everyone knows it'll be a while. he resumed the song "unplugged" from one of the verses through the end, and most were singing along. then everyone got super quiet for To Die Among Strangers, which sounded awesome.
the show at my house went over pretty well! I think I preferred the 2012 one because the recent songs are a bit less to my liking, but otherwise everything was great. it's not even a fair comparison because last time it was mostly a full band and this time it was all solo jerome on vocals/guitar. the band are really funny/happy guys - I'd forgotten how enjoyable it is just having dinner with them, but it's been true both times
biggest drama of the night was this fucking maniac dude apparently from the neighborhood... there's a gate to get into my place, and it was open for the show, so he just wandered in and all the way into the house. the woman managing the tour sort of brought him to me to see what his deal was, and I said I didn't know him. he rambled a bunch of shit: "hey what's up here - I'm Stan the Man, I'm from the neighborhood! so what's goin' on... got some music goin'? what's the deal?" and we tell him it's a ticketed show and that he's gotta go, so he starts stomping his feet and yelling/whining "awwwww it's gotta be like that? that's how you're gonna do me?" and refuses to leave. but then some MASSIVE fascist-looking dude (rightmost below) gets in his face and slowly marches him outta the house and past the gate, which we lock behind him. later I find out that he was cursing up a storm outside the gate, pacing back and forth, he tore down the banner thingy I made (see below)... and that he let the air out of a bunch of people's tires on the block (including mine). sooo, fuck that guy! I actually saw him again a few days later hanging out near the liquor store and thought about calling the cops but I don't actually have much against him (semi-hearsay re: tires) and I sure as shit don't want some psycho as my neighborhood enemy/antagonist.
edit: whoa, he posted the pic that very night? I didn't realize!

Nice recap. TDAS in a blackout must've ruled. I'm working on a power rankings for their discography but it's really hard.

New album in the works. Probably the most underrated band of the last ten years.

A Cross of Wheat has become my favorite Rome album. That entire 3 record release is a pretty staggering accomplishment which only becomes more apparent with time.

Re: ROME [Jerome Reuter] appreciation
So, there is some cool stuff on the EP - especially the post punk leanings of Fragments. One of the songs is in full German though so that leaves really only 4 tracks *sigh*. Thank You Based Jerome

Re: ROME [Jerome Reuter] appreciation
New album is out...in Europe only. Album art is cringe worthy though. Must have something to do with the 'rock leanings' on this one.
