Unless you're completely terrible at games, turn off the listening mode in the options and it'll make each encounter a lot more exciting.

Interesting. I threw on Last of Us Friday for the hell of it. I had enough of The Suffering for the night (actually I got lost. Is this even I game you can get lost in ) but wanted more horror themed gaming adventures. That's when the boy came down stairs and started watching it... yeah, well, once the end of the prologue happened with the father and daughter, sorry, buddy, this is an adult game, no way. He protested he liked it, but I turned on Peggle instead.

Sega doing their best to kill the Alien ip value. The next game, made by devs known for RTS games, will star Ripley's daughter and be a fp game of some sort.
Will buy for $5 like I did with Colonial Marines.

I, of course, have zero faith in the Alien IP these days but the one thing they said that made it sound interesting was that there was a decent amount of stealth and they were likening it to Dishonored and Bioshock. Shrug. Color me at least very slightly interested to read more.Wang Mandu wrote:Sega doing their best to kill the Alien ip value. Nintendo still can't figure out online mp? Will buy one for $150 if it ever gets released here.
Forgot how good the combat is in the Batman Arkham games and how fun gliding around the city is in AC. Hopefully I will finally finish Arkham City this weekend (after owning the game for two years ) and dive right into Origins.

I just started playing it this morning and yeah, that was pretty intense.
Decent game so far, the controls are a little annoying though. Sort of reminds me of Uncharted 3 in that it has a very cinematic feel, it's not a very open world. I'll probably be with Geoff in not wanting to replay it once I'm done with it.

Don't be afraid. It plays exactly the same, Batman's voice sounds pretty damn similar but a bit gruffer, the combat is still smooth and responsive but it seems like the counter window is shorter (I am playing on Hard), the music is perfect. You really should return the console version and get the PC version. It looks gorgeous. They've buffed up the crime scene investigations a bit and the one I did was more fun than previous games. I don't know anything about the comic lore but it's nice to take on villains that aren't from the movies and I like the setup of the main story. I usually hate origin stories for a game sequel but Batman is fucking cool and perfect for this. A minor nitpick is the punches and combat hits don't seem to have as much oomph boom thwack sounds as the previous games but that could be my headphones or specific to my computer.Pisscubes wrote:

Concerning Batman Origins: Hmm? Negative remarks in reviews I've read are saying it isn't anything special because it's just more of the same. More of one of the best games of this generation's console cycle you mean, dicks. No, COD has been putting out more of the same year after year, but those titles are 9's and 10's for sure. Bah! Can I buy a game out of spite? Because I'm going to now.

Is it open world? I can't be bothered to read a review.

I explored but could never be bothered to do The Riddler challenges, so I might have missed stuff for sure. I know I couldn't enter one of his hide-outs because I didn't collect enough Question Marks. I also got lost doing a Deadshot mission and never bothered finishing it. As a Zelda type game I loved it, but the Asylum is just miles better, which says a lot for the excellence of Arkham Asylum.Pisscubes wrote:I just still think it's the best comic book hero game ever made and if I can go around some new stories and do the stealth and beat-em-up stuff, it's worth the price of admission. I'm with you about the open world though. I barely explored anything in AC.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
The basic mechanics in Arkham City were still fun enough for me to play through the main story (not the Catwoman part, though, never finished that), but the open world tedium really drew it out to the point where I had enough by the end, and it also suffered from "sequel must have twice as much of everything" syndrome bogging down the combat with too many gadgets. The progression of gadget acquisition along with the difficulty curve was extremely purposeful and well done in Asylum, and in City it was just, here's a ton of shit to use, and a ton of shit to do, we don't care if any of it matches up.
