Dakota access pipeline
Worth its own thread? While police clash with native Americans I heard it stated by protestors that if this pipeline leaked into the Missouri River the drinking water of up to 18 million people could be contaminated. Is this hyperbole? Maybe someone like black Jacques could help sort out the bullshit from the genuine dangers

Re: Dakota access pipeline
First I've heard about it dude.
Not sure if you need me to tell you oil's not good for a fresh water supply... and I suspect to you - like everyone else on earth it seems - taking any risk no matter how remote, no matter how many measures are put in place to prevent an accident from happening, and no matter how beneficial the project might be to a great number of people, is unacceptable.

because the oil & gas industry has such a stellar record for putting the necessary measures in place, and never cutting corners.Black Jacques wrote:taking any risk no matter how remote, no matter how many measures are put in place to prevent an accident from happening, and no matter how beneficial the project might be to a great number of people, is unacceptable.
Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

You seem to automatically assume the risks are remote?Black Jacques wrote:First I've heard about it dude.

Well, no. by virtue of discussing similar issues with people like you many times I was already anticipating where the conversation was headed.

Are you talking to me or necrophalic cat fucker? I wanted your legitimate technical insights of the risks of running a gigantic metal tube filled with sludge over a lake seeing as it's your supposed area of expertise. You're the one who wants to take it into glib snarky asshole land. I can be a lot nastier if you like. I'm no fan of the red savage, believe you me, but I can't help but think the risks outweigh the benefits when it comes to the keystone pipeline. Water is more scarce than energy. And there WILL be spills.

I changed my mind, dynamite the rainforests and grind the spotted owl into fertilizer. More lead paint for flint Michigan. Drill baby drill.

Re: Dakota access pipeline
Yeah you're right. I wouldn't rather not have cars, roads, plastics, planes, or ships and would rather we still did everything by horse and buggy because of the risks of taking one drop of crude out of Mother Earth. Yup that's me. You're extremely defensive because of the industry you're in and you probably are attacked unfairly all the time, I get that. That's why my first post wasn't filled with "fuck Exxon" vitriol. You're post reads like someone who's a defensive smug prick. Have I pegged you wrong? If you want to start this conversation over I'm all ears.Black Jacques wrote:Have I pegged you wrong?Cascade Whore wrote: "People like you" go fuck your self.
