FBTS' posts made me wonder what this "Ethereum" was that this new get rich quick scheme seems to revolve around, and I found this: https://blockgeeks.com/guides/what-is-ethereum/

What fascinated me about it is that it if you added a little name-dropping and a CV full of gross exaggerations, it would read exactly like something Kaka might've written. IT geeks who think their obscure idea that nobody understands and that is almost exactly like something that already exists will change the world and make them the next Bill Gates.

I've long had this impression that IT guys don't seem to realize that nobody understands any of this shit and nobody cares. They think that because basically everything and everyone's on the internet now, people think this stuff is important and everyone knows their jargon. Like Kaka's Youtube ad, the intention behind this blog post is to explain Ethereum to the average person and to convince them of its advantages, but it's so riddled with IT jargon that it's impossible to decipher. Yet the author apparently expects normal people outside the IT bubble to throw money at whatever it is he's describing.

What these people don't understand is that nobody wants to know how this stuff works, they want to know what it does. What made Instagram big was that people understood they could post selfies and put filters on them that made them look vaguely like magazine pictures and then get likes for them, not some tech-babble about how the app works. It's really kind of fascinating to me how there's apparently a subset of IT guys who just don't get that.

What I wonder is, when these schemes fail, do the IT geeks who invented them sit at home, embittered that the world is too stupid to understand their brilliance? Do they discuss it on obscure message boards (that everyone should use because BoardMonkey 5.0 is SO MUCH MORE SECURE than Reddit and it includes the latest PeePeeBlargn technology and really, you know) and call it "user error"?
