that kid on the playground with some handheld video game console thing in 1980 was some very poorly executed production design

Tell Me a Story
Robert Penn Warren, 1905 - 1989
Long ago, in Kentucky, I, a boy, stood
By a dirt road, in first dark, and heard
The great geese hoot northward.

I could not see them, there being no moon
And the stars sparse. I heard them.

I did not know what was happening in my heart.

It was the season before the elderberry blooms,
Therefore they were going north.

The sound was passing northward.

Tell me a story.

In this century, and moment, of mania,
Tell me a story.

Make it a story of great distances, and starlight.

The name of the story will be Time,
But you must not pronounce its name.

Tell me a story of deep delight.
"IV. Love and Knowledge" From Audubon: A Vision

By Robert Penn Warren

Their footless dance
Is of the beautiful liability of their nature.
Their eyes are round, boldly convex, bright as a jewel,
And merciless. They do not know
Compassion, and if they did,
We should not be worthy of it. They fly
In air that glitters like fluent crystal
And is hard as perfectly transparent iron, they cleave it
With no effort. They cry
In a tongue multitudinous, often like music.

He slew them, at surprising distances, with his gun.
Over a body held in his hand, his head was bowed low,
But not in grief.

He put them where they are, and there we see them:
in our imagination.

What is love?

Our name for it is knowledge.

better than s1. episode 4 in particular. take that take

even though I think stephen dorff is only like 50% of a character to this point, not lifting nearly the weight woody did. mahershala ali's performance is way more interesting than mcconaugheys was, though, and the dialogue just feels like they're striking the right balance between the slightly goofy angsty s1 shit (and the buddy cop stuff, too) and the kind of overwrought milchian s2 stuff

the tone and atmosphere would make this season perfect, if not hampered by shoehorned racial banter

yeah, we all know mahershala ali was in the luke cage show...a little exhausting knowing which black actors we need to worship

the black prison rape thing they love too much...

they celebrate that, white trash fucked in the ass...why do they love that?

the actual point of the black banter shit is that he routinely and selfishly goes too far and he knows it and its obvious to both of them and the closer they get the more dorf's character just lets it slide and doesnt give a fuck

no one is getting over anyone else

same with the prison rape stuff. seems cool heh heh in the moment but he has no idea that all those years later that long haired kid is fully traumatized and full of rage from shit that wayne surely doesnt even remember saying

I think it might end up deeper than that...proof its a good show

I think they're going to talk about Nebraska next season.

It sounds like they are referencing Season 1, where time is a flat circle, in that Wayne see's his future and his future see's his past. Like a dog trying to catch his tail.

Stephen Dorff is doing his best old Jack Nicholson impersonation.

Michael Rooker as Hoyt!

I guess it was a thing:

I'm digging that the True Illuminate convinced the conspiracists that Louisiana was about a child prostitution conspiracy, when it was really about a space funnel sacrifice conspiracy.

This season is tremendous and the first meeting of old man Dorff and old man Ali was heartwrenching stuff.
