The Fountain. The tracklist is reversed here, but I don't care.

Rushmore, Darjeeling Limited, Bottle Rocket, and Fantastic Mr Fox, are all solid sounds tracks, and probably all unbeatable.

Braveheart is GOAT-tier. In that same category of romanticism and sentimentality, I would put Last of the Mohicans, although the two best themes from that movie really can't be separated from one another and I can't pick just one.
Ravenous is the best also-ran for me, the approach is fucking fantastic but it doesn't ultimately belong with the greats. I love this one because it's dark and sarcastic BY USING NOTES
The distance between the strings and the choir in American History X fucking guts me
I know Hans Zimmer gets shit on all the time but fuck off

Re: best soundtrack from major motion pictures after 1993
Lord of the Rings really is fucking good too
One of my nerd friends claims that the main theme is only ever played in it's entirety when the party is journeying together for the first time approaching Moria. Every other time apart from that, only portions of it play until it reaches its full strength. I haven't watched the movie to check on that, because I'm not a fucking dweeb, but I believe it completely and refuse to be told otherwise.

Spawn - super notable for having an entire disc of original songs written by teams of the most exciting musicians of the time, each of which grew to be the most disappointing in their respective fields as time went on. The Spawn soundtrack is like 100 new versions of Hear 'n Aid for the nu-metal generation.
Batman & Robin
Scream
The Matrix

Re: best soundtrack from major motion pictures after 1993
river's edge doesn't count because it doesn't have an original soundtrack of non-classical/non-score songs. very few non-"musical" movies have a totally original soundtrack worth of songs. I've never seen that movie, and now I feel like I've fucked up almost as hard as you have by never having seen white chicks. if you really stick to your guns on vowing never to see it, then you are by far the fuck up. at least I'm open to seeing river's edge...
and I didn't forget - I was saying "this old thing is incredible, is there a new-thing equivalent"

james by now you know I am *that guy*
there is an even longer version - some woman's face gets a fireball "prank"
this is turning my whole week around
can anyone tell me if, in the video, when he plinks the semi-random keys on the piano (3:20-3:50ish)... is he hitting the right keys to match the notes?

if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007
