Re: The movie "Mandy"
jesus fuck I wanna see it
I remember finding out about Beyond the Black Rainbow because Father of Lies posted the trailer here. The music and visuals made me so excited that I had to run to take a shit.
How we arrive here from there with Nick Cage in tow is totally beyond me, but the reviews coming in have me feeling good - BTBR kinda felt like a bait and switch, although I did learn to love it with time.

Re: The movie "Mandy"
totally agreed that the btbr trailer blows the movie out of the water, but the movie is still cool and is self-assured if nothing else
it's looking less and less like mandy will get a wider theatrical release, so I'm VODing it with friends/family sunday night
can't wait

Re: The movie "Mandy"
SPOILERS
I didn't remotely love this movie but it's not really the movie's fault. I heard so many people complaining about the "slow" first half, but I think I preferred that to the latter. I loved the entirety of the scene that had the face-merging (with that being the highlight). her cracking up at the cult leader was perfect. cheddar goblin was also a highlight.
the cenobikers didn't really click for me. the weapon-forging part was cool but seemed a bit contrived in the big picture. the chainsaw fight was meh. most of the stuff in the second half probably seemed cooler on paper than it was on the screen. the burning church was great. I don't think I've ever loved a "revenge" movie so that made it an uphill battle for me. his rampage would have felt so much more righteous to me had she still been alive. I read some theory that it wasn't actually her in the bag, but whatever.

Re: The movie "Mandy"
the "slow" beginning is so short, and seems necessary to establish their idyllic life together i don't get complaining about it. the whole movie is pretty short and action kicks off pretty early into it and doesn't let up until it's over.

This dude really nails stuff stylistically most times. Not a big revenge movie guy myself but this was cool overall.

The more I sit with this the more I"m upset with how easily he tracks Cenobikers and they're just normal murdering psychos sitting around doing fuck all. Dude tooted the horn of Abraxas so they had to stop watching porn? How occult.

Looked like the skinny one was maybe manufacturing drugs or something? And the war-metal guy had an erection that was a blade. Some connection with the mutant insect from earlier? Seemed they were in the house of some couple they had killed. So they could get their jar of garmonbozia fix or whatever?

panos directed cabinet of curiosities (netflix) ep 7, The Viewing, and it's awesome
all the trailers (and even a thumbnail?) give away too much, so do everything you can to go in blind

Re: The movie "Mandy"
There used to be an extended version of one of the fake Jeremiah Sands songs where he has a spoken word intro talking about his life and how he began his cult, I can’t find it anymore. It’s pretty fucked up, talks about being abused by his mother and then he kills her and fucks some other girl while she’s on the pierod “I came in the blood” then I think he killed that girl too. ( memory is a bit hazy ) then it segue’s into Amulet Of The Weeping Maze.
Is Linus Roache still an actual cult leader?

I've been looking forward to watching this episode, but have been underwhelmed by the first few eps I watched.Necrometer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 10:36 pm panos directed cabinet of curiosities (netflix) ep 7, The Viewing, and it's awesome

hahaha
yeah, I posted in this thread specifically because I can't strongly endorse anything else in there. if you really want to die, I can point you to plenty of kids on the internet railing about how terrible the panos episode was
