Yeah, maybe it just seems to me like a bigger component than it actually is because it's the part I'm most interested in seeing play out.

I almost want it to just be a layer, because I'm kind of scared of the possibility of them M Nighting up the ending.altars of radness wrote:Yeah, maybe it just seems to me like a bigger component than it actually is because it's the part I'm most interested in seeing play out.
I just keep thinking of all they ways they could fuck this up.
How the fuck do guys like this come out of nowhere and deliver so much awesome?

He's not going to fuck this up. Pizzolato or whatever has a pretty damn clear idea of how the story plays out. I expect nothing but great things for the last three eps.

Re: True Detective (HBO)
My dad gave up after episode 3 because "nothing happened." I told him to check out episode 4, and if he wasn't into it by the end of that, then it's not the show for him.altars of radness wrote:I haven't followed the reactions the show's been getting, but I'm a little curious as to what people who have no background in, or tolerance for, sci-fi/horror/metaphysics think of it. I can't imagine that everyone who was expecting some kind of grim HBO Justified would be completely on board with monologues about the nature of time.

I think The Big Bang Theory would be more up your dad's alley. That Sheldon sure is a whippersnapper.

Re: True Detective (HBO)
I think the sci-fi portion is a critical part, but not the main point. I think the focus of the story is how viewing such monumental ideas makes one crazy, thus Cohle becoming crazy by focusing more and more on the case. That falls within the lines of a) he's within Carcosa now joining Ladoux, b) reality is a flat circle; One insanity dies while another takes it's place, and c) The King in Yellow is a play that's supposed to drive the reader mad, The Yellow King is a practice that ends up driving Cohle mad the more he studies it.
Like I said, fuck Del Toro, Pizzolatto and Fukunaga are the good shit.

Re: True Detective (HBO)
Hahaha
I really hope it's not a giant monster. I'd like it if there were some unforseen force driving this that is never fully explained, but I care most about Cohle going insane trying to figure out this impossible riddle, like Ahab chasing a white whale.
