I'm reading Don Quixote. It's enjoyable in that old school spinning an endless yarn kind of way.

The Grapes of Wrath - 9/10 I love Steinbeck.

I'm reading The Plague now and I'm also 150 pages into The New Industrial State by John Kenneth Galbraith. Both are great so far.

Man I would have smacked the cunt off of her if she did that to me.

I let my neighbor borrow my copy of "A Confederacy of Dunces" and he returned it after 80 pages or so. He wanted to know when something was going to happen... so I hit him.

The Plague - 9/10.

Starting a collection of Kafka's short stories and then I'm going to hit up The Stranger.

First time for Kafka's shorts? If I could only have one book for the rest of my life, that collection is it.

Yeah, this will be the first collection of his short stories that I've read. I've read The Trial and the only contact I've had with his short stories came from the illustrated book Kafka For Beginners, Robert Crumb drew it and it's a lot of fun to read. I picked up one of those Barnes & Noble classics books, "The Metamorphosis and Other Stories" translated by Donna Freed, for $2. Its got "The Metamorphosis, The Judgment, The Stoker: A Fragment, A Country Doctor, In the Penal Colony, A Hunger Artist, An Old Leaf, A Message from the Emperor, Before the Law, Josephine the Singer or the Mouse People. After I'm done with it I'm going to pass it along to my niece and then eventually look for another collection. Do you have any preference for a particular translation of his work?

Ever read Wild Town? That one is about an oil boom town. Lesser Thompson but worthwhile I think.

I'd say Killer Inside Me, Pop 1280, and Hell of a Woman.
After Dark, My Sweet is weak. The movie is actually a bit better.

The Metamorphosis 10/10 This was a real kick in the balls... so glad I didn't read this when I was younger because I'm sure I would not have appreciated it and subsequently never read it again. It hit home and fucked with my head to the extent that last night, in the middle of the night, I woke up and was compelled to pull the sheet/comforter off my bed, taking both over to the sofa in my room, where I immediately fell back asleep. This is ridiculous because it's just a tiny loveseat. I woke up again some time later (completely determined to escape that loveseat without ACTUALLY waking up) and shifted the sheets back to the bed and was out again. None of this involved waking up enough to have any memory of actually being awake and thinking "what am I doing, and why", but I'm sure it happened because my comforter is now running left-to-right instead of top-to-bottom

and now there's a fucking inexplicable rash on the top part of my left arm
