Passion Play 0/10
Fuck this stupid and movie and fuck whatever asshole copy writers and graphic designers responsible for the Norwegian DVD release for misrepresenting this turd to trick people into thinking it might actually be watchable. It's marketed as an edgy independent gangster drama with Mickey Rourke and Bill Murray. It even says on the box "from the author of Great Expectations." So I'm thinking, "hey, I've never heard of this movie, but it's got some cool actors and has some festival circuit ribbons and if it's a modern reinterpretation of a classic novel it might not have a totally shitty story," but it's actually about Megan Fox as a Mexican stripper with wings. I'm pretty sure Charles Dickens didn't write that.

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
She doesn't get naked. She only becomes a stripper because jazz cat Mickey Rourke sells her to Bill Murray because Bill Murray hired some guy to execute him but he was inexplicably saved by indian mujahideen ninjas and then stumbles onto a Mexican carnival with Megan Fox with wings as an exhibit. God damn it, this makes the movie sound kinda awesome. Too bad it's offensively shitty.
I'm gonna watch Essential Killing next. It has Vincent Gallo as a Taliban dude. Here's to hoping it's a better used rental copy from the 7-11 around the corner score than Passion Play was.

Aside from PS Hoffman, I didn't like that one so much. It kinda struck me as a more bitter, less nuanced Wag the Dog.noah thirteen wrote:Ides Of March

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
I thought it was a largely weightless piece about loyalty and betrayal, without contemporary american politics factoring in at all. The Evan Rachel Wood character was this clanking disaster of plot advancement without any attempt at actually fleshing out an actual character and the ending felt like you were watching a tire run out of air. It's competently produced and performed as one would expect, just keep your expectations very tempered.

Essential Killing 7/10
This was actually pretty cool. Vincent Gallo is suprisingly convincing as a Taliban boogyman. Considering he's a neo con sperm selling lunatic I wonder what kind of method he used to get into character. He looks like Mullah Krekar. It's beautifully photographed and has some awesome scenes of violence.

Watched a spell of the Sweet Lord Hitler remake, "Downfall". Eh, I dunno, think all the comedy from youtube watered it down for me. Not enough atrocities.

Kill List 5/10
Could have been good, but the ending was horrible. REALLY seemed like a Dead Man's Shoes knockoff with an evil cult twist to it. Except it wasn't even half as good as Dead Man's Shoes. Also, I normally don't have a problem with this, but these Brits were some of the worst mushmouths ever. I could barely understand a single thing in this movie.
Another Earth 7.5/10
Kind of depressing, but I really liked it. It's not really like Melancholia at all, but it has the same sort of "planet moving closer to earth" thing and how peoples' lives change because of that. Ambiguous ending that could be a depressing ending or somewhat cheery ending depending on your interpretation of the movie.
Needle 3/10
The entire movie is centered around this antique box that if you put a picture into it, with some blood and wax it will spit out a little voodoo doll that you can torture people with. The gore/kills are actually fairly well done, but few and far between. Also, all of them are in the trailer. So there is a fuck ton of filler and boring shit to wade through. Crap.

The Artist – 9/10: almost unbearably cute, and that dog was as apt a metaphor for watching this movie as there ever could have been; the use of marquees and movie posters was a little too heavy-handed even for being intentionally heavy-handed; it's really easy to fall in love with self-aware movies about movies, and I'm guilty of that, but this was also just so much fun on its own merits.

Also, that arm in a sleeve scene with the female lead was just so well-done, funny and clever but really sweet.

it's amazing to me how underappreciated this movie is already
