My sister and her husband used to live in Atlanta, and one year taking a flight up north, my brother-in-law recognized the Iron Sheik, flying in coach but completely conspicuous as one would imagine the Iron Sheik shoved into an airplane seat would be. He works up his nerve to approach him and ask him for an autograph, and the Shiek obliges, pulling out an 8x10 glossy of him, Goldberg, and the Big Show all smiles, with the caption reading 'Three World Champions'. The Sheik tells him he'd be happy to sign two photos for him, but at the cost of two drinks from the stewardess and her drink cart. My bro in law obliges, and I still have the picture somewhere in my archive, and he still tells the goddamn story, especially how utterly shitfaced the Sheik was already. Fuck, I'm retelling it here, living vicariously through him, so I guess it's golden.

The moral of the story: the Iron Sheik is godlike in word and deed.

Yeah, they used to have to act out their characters even when they were out and about in their everyday lives, well, to a point. Ted Dibiase had to act rich at all times, Rick Martel had to hate Tito Santana at all times, all that kind of shit.
